Pohx: POE is now like D3, leveling is too easy, map system the same, most uniques sucks....

On the difficulty subject, I've spent a fair bit of time over the years with newcomers to the game and it's still challenging enough for an inexperienced player even if you tell him what to do. Also, it's still challenging enough for an experienced player if he isn't actively trying to trivialize it.

The problem is it's way too easy if you do. And it isn't the problem with the entirety of the game, if they take apart the few offending builds and tackle the reasons they're so broken it could be dialed down without affecting the rest of the game much. Unless having broken crap is the original idea, of course, PoE is advertised as a game of possibilities so it could very well be that they want you to have a way to break the game, if you wish to do so. Something like, say, enchant/alchemy loop in Skyrim or Crissaegrim in Castlevania SoTN.

It kinda makes sense, to try and offer every ice cream flavor out there if it isn't too much trouble, but having a flavor that's so good it actually makes you not want to eat other ones is shooting your business in the foot. Because customers will get tired of it sooner or later, even if you do switch around the ingredients in it a bit every few months, you aren't really selling 'orange' or 'strawberry' with that flavor, what you're selling is 'ultimate icecreamy bliss' and after a while the actual flavor stops being a factor.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

I agree that both games are different and that POE has higher complexity/depth plus it gets new content every 3 months which is great and awesome, so I prefer POE over D3. However, one thing I like about D3 is that at least content scales with character power. Any character can do normal rift and get the key for greater rifts where characters are challenged with increased difficulty. If one finishes one greater rift very fast then it gets the key to another one with increased difficulty until one reaches a point where character cannot proceed further. This content is accessible for any character and not RNG-gated which I think is a good solution to challenge all characters.

Now with atlas expansion we get more maps/bossess/layouts which is great but I do not think (I hope I am wrong) high tier maps/zones will be accessible in regular bases for high level characters, which means that probably we will need to farm low tier maps which will be not challenging and at the end boring, and that is what is happening right now because is very difficult to sustain tier13-15.

No worries. Once every three or six months, you announce 'We changed Ultimate Icecreamy Bliss to Rancid Seal Blubber, but why don't you try our brand new Heavenly Icy Delight in five distinct colours?'

You have to be realistic about these things.

Yes, I was inspired by Inuit traditions. I thought of something cold and disgusting, as opposed to something cold and delicious.

It's funny, you seem to be the PoE equivalent of someone who likes Kiviak :P

To balance a game around players having 8+ available hours a day to play, is kind of stupid

True, it is. It's also improper to define the game difficulty through time investment. Or at least shouldn't be this way.
When people, and you either, speak about difficulty in this game, they mean infinite repetitive activity. That has become the model of success in this game. To bot your way to the victory. And wish yourself luck with the RNG gated achievements, of course. I don't blame players on it, that's the vision of the developers implemented in the game. Now that's concerning.

For example, Evasion league was exactly the opposite of mindless botting around. Was it hard and deadly? Yes. Was time investment the defining factor of how high you would climb the ladder? No.
Why wasn't it implemented in main game? Who the fuck knows.
Does anyone remember the pre-official release PoE? When blue mobs weren't just exp donors and bosses weren't punching bags? Build wrong and you will keep dying to white packs. Pushing the ladder those days meant something.

In both cases - now and then, time investment was a key for success. But "those days" it wasn't the only defining factor. Proper building and skills were leading, especially in HC leagues.

IMO developers should look back and make a conclusion. Though, it more likely won't happen, as they are up to the point where most of the games are - deep into the milking activities, with all the dirty tricks.
Speaking this way, the "hardcore game for hardcore gamers" tag already doesn't apply to this game, for long. It's constantly getting dumbed down and leaned to the "casuals", in terms of lazy people unwilling to learn, read and experiment, people who want everything NAW.
So yeah, PoE is too close to D3 in many aspects.

The game might be a little bit harder if they started to award high level play. Greater rewards for playing t12+ maps - a way of indirectly "force" players to leave the t9-10 loop. Nerf t9-10 maps, and buff t12+ maps. Not saying you should reach 100 in a shorter time, but - again - indirectly force the progression into higher tier maps. And put 40% of the XP gain on bosses, forcing boss fights.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

If you see, thats their intention with the atlas. You see that when you get +1% map drop rate, you will eventually have better chances to run higher level maps.A steady influx of t14 will always beat the same rotations of t10,more even so,now that new methods to acquire higher tier maps emerge.I think people complaining cant see this point and think it is "same old, same old",when it actually allows them to do so much in this patch and on future content.
Bye bye desync!
Couldn't tell ya if this game is like D3... I stopped playing D3 after a month because it failed the most important aspect of ARPGs imo which is crafting builds.

I'm not sure why people think that in a few months, GGG can change the world. Create 3 new Acts, overtune the whole system, create new skills, and so forth. It's just not enough time to do all these things.

That being said, Atlas CAN be a great change to Path of Exile. First of all it gives us a goal to reach during endgame. Before it was like ehh, climb up tiers (If you can get them drop). Now it feels like they are easing up on the red tiers a bit. Especially if they are adding in the shaper orb for a +5 level on maps. After playing maps for hours and hours... I still have not run a single red map.

But more importantly, this sets up the endgame for the future. New Act comes out, now they can add a new part on the Atlas. Maybe a new expansion releases some special tower for endgame, maybe this appears on the Atlas as well. It opens up options for GGG to implement interesting designs for endgame... without throwing away the map system as a whole.

Most Uniques suck.... well yeah thats true. But they kept prophecy around. So they need to put more fated uniques in it.

Pohx and a lot of those longtime standing streamers have played this game so much and tried everything there is to offer, that it feels like they are just burnt out of the game.
