half of the people here dont understand how "statistics" work

if you have 30 000 people playing PoE trough steam, and over half of them already quit, that tendencie applys to the people that "dont play poe trough steam" as well, unless you can provide evidance why people that dont use steam are less likely to quit than the other 15 000 that did quit using steam...

not necessarily. I'm only one case, of course, but during open beta i played with GGG's client. Then, on release, I switched to steam, for see for try, etc
Then, when i was tired of waiting for steam to finish updating once again, i switched back to GGG's client and am still happily using it.
So, in my case, i'm one of those that helped the fall of the steam graph, but i'm still playing.

Okay I'm assuming all of you passed highschool or at least most of it and can understand basic line graph chart.

This may blow many of you guys minds because you didn't take statistics but you also have to understand the MEANING behind the chart and how it applies to the whole to the question to are asking.

If the question is "is PoE" losing playerbase quite quickly, then to have to think about where the chart is from and the environmental factors behind the chart.

Because PoE already existed as a game with a playerbase, the steam chart doesn't not record the player base before the game was released on steam.

As a new free game on steam many people played it, tricking down to an average of 15k+ players or whatever.

Because PoE already existed as a game with a player base, their PLAYER COUNT has increased by 15k+.

PoE did not LOSE 15k+ players because simply they never had the players to begin with, the only number that matters is that their average CONSTANT players that play are keeping the same or slowly increasing.

To tell the current health of the game we need a chart of the game from open beta all the way to the steam release, with the steam release numbers added in.

My god so many intellectuals here.

Like literally can't even explain how using the steam chart to say PoE playerbase is dropping is incorrect properly.

??

So your logic is that every steam player is a new player, and adds to the population. I'll let you in on a secret Mr. Intellectual. I started using steam to play POE after release. I'm sure a lot of people did the same. Despite the few people that seem stuck in 2005 when steam was awful, a lot of people enjoy the convenience of steam. The fact is, from release, the population of POE has dropped dramatically. Let's say there were 20,000 beta players. Okay, steam releases, adds 35,000 to that number. 55k. Now assuming EVERY BETA player is still playing AND doesn't play on steam (which is insane!) the number is now around 32k. Even with the most positive spin on the numbers, that's a huge number of people to stop playing since release. Who knows, maybe 100 thousand people were playing closed beta and those 100 thousand are still playing (without steam of course).

So if there was 20k Beta constant players and now 32k constant players with steam added

That is a positive growth in playerbase, the amount of players that possibly existed is NOT the constant playerbase of the game. There are billions of unused league of legends accounts but there's a positive increase in playerbase since open beta of league of legends and every season afterwards.

There is no logic here, that is literally how statistics work you account for the long term run of the game which I literally stated at the end.

If you show me a graph of both of the playerbases combined and there is a DROP of players in general then the game is being unhealthy.

Poe is fine and I haven't used steam since my counter strike days.

thanks! im a fan of big words but not of steam...
I am starting to feel annoyed of this game seriously. I am one of the South East Asia player and began playing PoE since last 2 months ago. At first, this game really caught my attentions and I felt so excited all the time especially after my work, I would immediately online and play PoE. For some reasons, the desync and high latency during peak periods really pissed me off most of the time. Imagine during peak periods, my latency would jump up as high as 1500ms every 10 seconds for 1-2 seconds. If I am not mistaken, the time will be like 5pm-11pm(GMT+8)and its so unplayable. Other than during that time, my latency is only around 50ms. I love this game so much and I bought almost all the nice micro-transactions to show my supports towards the game but I never post this problem on PoE forums nor contact supports regarding high latency problems during peak periods because I'd seen so many other players experiencing same issues like desync, low fps, unstable latency etc.

One might even call it... a Steaming pile!

I'll be here all night folks!
So funny, Steam means nothing now it shows the player base declining but if was the best thing since sliced bread when people used it to measure the player base rising :D!

The player base did rise.

There are MORE players with the addition of steam that are constantly playing then before steam.

Steam didn't remove or add negative amount of players to the game.

If the topic was "why doesn't PoE have a higher player retention rate at release" that would be something that could be validly discussed.
