How is AFKing during a boss related to a slightly longer loot timer? It's not like there's anything stopping anyone from standing around during the actual battle, then running around to grab the loot at the end today...

If someone gets the loot allocated to them for a second or two longer, it doesn't hurt anyone except the people that want to 'steal' it.

And like you mentioned, we already have the option to choose who we group with, so what is so bad about introducing an option for a slightly longer timer? Again, it doesn't hurt anyone except those who want to focus on clicking loot faster than someone else, often at the expense of actual group contribution.

A) It is not YOUR loot. Sorry.
B) Why make a big change like that instead of having you pick your groups better?

A) It is "my" loot, just for a specified amount of time.
B) Option for party leader: "[checkbox] Add __ seconds to loot timer." Or even make it a percent so it scales for melee/ranged. Update some code to take the number into account and that's that.

C) (which you avoided twice) How would such an option hurt anyone?

A) No it is not, the devs have stated this several times, get it through your thick skull, it is simply your opportunity to get that piece of loot first.
B) Waste of development time
C) See B
The game does not adapt to you, you adapt to it.

the problem with simply "setting an option" that allows loot to be distributed more advantageously, is that doesn't actually present a new option for players who want it without removing the old option for players who want that. once you open up a method for players to satisfy their gear goal without trading, they have no reason to participate in trade. This need to participate in trade is what makes the other option attractive to those players.

you need a solution that prevents the disparity of wealth, without allowing players to satisfy their gear requirements completely outside of the intended trade mechanics.

How would such an option satisfy all of a player's gear requirements without trading any more so than the current system? The loot would still be random and would still be randomly assigned... you would just have more time to claim it.

They sell mice with High DPI, it might help you click on things faster and we can save a lot of un-needed game development.

In that case, isn't a high DPI mouse giving me a better chance to gear up my character while avoiding the trade system?

It is easier for YOU as YOU get that nice timer on the item instead of jimbo also have an equal chance at getting it. Instead, he currently gets to watch you waddle over and take the only unique that has dropped all day.

Face it, unless you get 100% you way with group loot, nothing else will be good enough. How is it fair to the rest of your group when the guy who was afk half the boss fight get the unique assigned to him and you all get some blues? You now lost your chance at that unique. Then you will complain that the system needs to be changed again.

Or, we could keep it as is, and you can choose some decent people to party with and let the rest of us enjoy the game the way we like..

It's less work for the group leader to kick someone's who's afk than to find out to which player an item "belongs".

We need to add mounts and wings and butterflies! We also should take away all the scary monsters and replace them with flowers!

Also: could you please stick to the topic in your own thread? Thanks.

@derbefrier (I'm not going to quote your wall of text):
How is FFA loot connected to a "hardcore" game? Just because the loot system sucks it's hardcore? GGG could also add random desyncs to make it more "hardcore"...

1. Not a problem, no one owns loot in FFA so there is no figuring anything out! Glad I could help :D

2. No.

Could you please stop that tiresome "It's not your loot" argument.
It's just not true.
1) A single player being able to click faster on items while his teammates die while fighting monsters did not "earn" that item.
2) If I'm the only witch in the party that witch-armor should be mine, but that doesn't work because people are a-holes. With instanced loot people would be more inclined to give me that item because the next monster might drop something they need. FFA just leads to the everything is mine attitude that is not healthy for a community.

All I want is a functioning party with random strangers rather than being penalized for not being a loner.
I beat cruel, ruthless and merciless and all I got were some maps.

A) Then what is your problem? Get there in time.
B/C) Everyone needs to be on the same playing field. Not make it up as they go. People playing on 2 different levels will only further devide everyone and allow carebears to land and destroy earth.
Why would you want competition in a party? The whole point of having parties is so that people can work together. This entire system makes no sense from its very roots.

It really is sad that you "hardcore" gamers think you are better than us. No we're not "casual" players. We're just players who have a different opinion on a subject. I love this game just as much as you, and like a challenge just as much. This is why I never complain about the game being hard. But having to compete in a party is simply ridiculous, and the only reason you think that it's the way it's "supposed to be" is because it was in Diablo 2. Well guess what? Diablo 2 doesn't define this genre. It was a great game, but it wasn't perfect. No game is. This is why games need to adapt and evolve. You people are just to ignorant to realize this.

Not really, I am just speculating but it may not be your mouse that is slow. :) Don't try to use my words against me.

A) Semantics. It's like saying you don't really own a game because you simply bought a license for it. If it's allocated to me (and ONLY me), it's mine for that duration of time.

B) In your opinion, maybe.

C) Hypothetically speaking, assuming it was trivial to implement, what's the harm?

It is not your loot.

It is not your loot.

It is not your loot.

What makes it yours? Because your name was on it? Devs stated several times this just give you a chance to get it, it is not your.

It is yours because your build would use it? This is not well defined, but if I were playing with you(I wouldn't) I probably give it to you if you said you would use it.

Loot is first come first server in this game, the timers were put in to give people who lag and play ranged a chance to get something. The timer system is in there for nothing more, and you guys should consider yourselves lucky to have that much.

The game does not adapt to you, you adapt to it.
