what keeps you/prevents your solo/SF?

My only reason to keep up solo/SF is the lesson learned in D3v.
What i did to my precious Barb was hearth-breaking and kept me playing that character after i get some good gear..
Long story short: played D3v like 700 hours totally solo/SF(lol, i didn't even know that was a thing), found myself in a situation that i had millions of gold that i could'nt use.. add 2 bottles of wine and an AH..you get the picture.. :D

After i had good(not GG( gear, i just hated that character, playing with it was just wrong, like i had skipped 1000 hours ahead.

When i finally started PoE, there was no way that i'm gonna spoil my characters in any way.

PoE could be one of the worst games where you solo/SF, but i'm sticking with it.

I totally respect anyone that go for trading, there has been times that i almost traded(like having 2 exa's and eternals at the same league).. but gladly i kept my way and instead selling those, i used them on "crafting" :D go liferegen go!!

So what's my point here? Well, i'd like to know why you keep SF'ing, why don't just go for trading and if you are allready trading, why some of you keep mocking self-founders?

I just want to see every PoE player happy, do what you like, it's possible in this game.

It is the second and the third char in a temp league that's the most fun to play if I go (semi) self-found.

My first char dies, and I look at my "uniques" tabs, and ask the question "which build could I make out of that?" That's fun.

But I do trade a little, so I guess I am not entitled to the "self-found"-tag. I just find it frustrating to desperately need a dex-ring, and somehow force myself to not spend an alch buying one.
Tide goes in, tide goes out. You can't explain that.
Solo is easy because you dont need your eyes on anyone but yourself. Following someone who doesnt care if you keep up is stupid and waiting for others to keep up is sometimes boring. Self found is harder because the games drop rate is designed around trading and without an AH to make that easy and fluid the trading game sucks and therefore self found sucks even more.

yep, that might be 1 thing for sf's.. nobody cares what you do=can lead some interesting things.

And you are right, sometimes solo/sf build stucks in the Fellshrine/merc... but the thing is that you learn from that... maybe the next one has:

-better(even good) weapon
-better balance between dps/survivability
-is there anything to improve your build? or is it just a gear issue?
-is this just an HP/ES issue or do i need to lower my deps`?

I don't wanna fight, so cooooooooooooookieeeeesss for life!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bad gear=high five's all'around and punch that (add boss) like a boss...

.. yes, i'm a 37 year old fan of JackSeptiCEye

so, fuck that shit and roll your builds, like a boss!!

Because the crafting system is garbage.

Wow, something constructive from Dirk...is this a sign of the end times? The world ends tomorrow. Confirmed.
Still in the alpha stage, but at least build diversity isn't an issue: https://wolcengame.com/home/

You have to be able to read between the lines 165% of the time. Thats why i give out cookies, some people tend to get it, others do not.
we actually do have an Auction House in the game, Dirk.
it just isn't called "Auction House", but it is definitely there.

as for Self Found, you don't really feel the pain until the gear-checks kick in, the upgrades stop coming, and the build isn't going where it should go, because items are missing.

the trick is to either go for a build you know would hit that RNG wall as late in the game as possible, or just decide this one is going to be using bought items, from the get go.
and use Item Craft Vendor Recipes. those are just priceless for leveling.
Masters become helpful at some point, too.
Alva: I'm sweating like a hog in heat
Shadow: That was fun

Lol, spamming trade chat? Nope, not an AH. Spamming the noticeboard? Nope 2.0, also not an AH. And poe.trade? Its not even in the game, and its not a real AH. Try again harder.

One big downside to playing SF is that you do not have the uniques that you need for special builds. And if you do have them there is always the question of whether you want to invest your orbs to make them viable. A 5L can be quite a big thing, a 6L is basically out of the question.
From my experience PoE can become a bit stale if all you can do when making a build is stacking offense and defense, and end up with a char that just gets by.
Principally I play SF but very rarely buy some things to prevent that from happening. Like today, two Divinarius for a total of 36 chaos. Not a build enabling unique but a very good one, especially for the price.
I think the best you can do is do whatever is the most fun for you, and stuff principles.
