What the...thing...is actually happening?...I don't even...

To begin with why our exile find himself at the coast again?

This is not really a part of the lore; it's not really explained at all. It just kind of happens, and the exile rolls with it.
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

Someone already answered this for you. Read your own thread or there is no point in replying to you.
This is not a story driven game
I usually do not read popular posts again after i made a comment on it, unless it's one of my own. I wish to have a Black robed Grim Reaper micro set in game one day, grant my wish, GGG
You know the vast majority of your questions are answered in great detail if you clicked on anything in the game that plays an audio file, or bothered talking to all the NPCs and reading/listening to their dialogue.

Like if you actually care enough you can just go on the wiki, I don't see why you would waste time writing your entire thread and responding to people when even reading the wiki would be faster.

(piety's wiki backstory)

You don't find out about any of this until well into Act 3. Piety's been running all over the place, making fun of you and shit well before then.

If it was *supposed* to be a mystery, I wouldn't call it a plothole. But it clearly is not supposed to be a mystery. It's just an omission.

Or, you know, you could just go at it like an investigation. You know, pay attention to what monuments have written on them, and what people say. That's what I've been doing, and to have the 'vinia' story handed to me like it just was, kinda cheapens it.

Not that i'm mad or anything. but i was enjoying the unraveling of Wraeclast's history at my own pace.
Quoting Saltychipmunk:
...I look at the new act 5 boss where you have to hide behind the statues to survive the bullet hell and all I can think is... how the fuck are zombies going to survive that?

They don't know what hiding is... they don't know what dodging is... they are morons.
Lore is everywhere turn sound on and listen to the nice npcs by the end of act 4 you can piece it all together.

That's fine, but it has nothing to do with my criticism.

It's not a plothole that Piety's existence is a mystery. It's a plothole that the Act 1 NPCs treat her like she's a known quantity--not at all a mystery--while talking to your character, as if your character SHOULD know who she is.

Here's one really simple example of what I'm talking about. Not ONCE does she tell you her name. Yet when you go back to town, Bestel says "Piety's raised Shavronne's barricade?" That ONLY makes sense if your character already knows who she is--or at the very least knows her name! And if she is that famous, then the game needs to explain that before this dialogue happens.

If she isn't that famous, then the game needs to have dialogue that makes sense.

Or we can all just be happy that it doesn't make sense (D3 style), since this is an ARPG and who tf cares about plot anyhow?

Well, apparently the OP does, and this point of criticism in particular is a valid one.
Wash your hands, Exile!

I'm not looking to get dragged into an argument on the quality of the writing (I'm not the right person to judge it), but for the sake of accuracy, she does in fact give her name, the very first time you see her, in the upper prison:

Heh, what's interesting is you can't quote a name that doesn't exist on this forum, meaning Piety links to a player here.

Mark, are you misrepresenting that player? Hehe, I kid, I kid. Time and again I've run into this problem when I want to, say, quote the wiki or an ingame description. What would you have done if no one was registered as Piety? That'd be embarrassing! But not really, since it'd show up blank. It'd be nifty if there was a bbcode function to give a source link rather than a player quote. Like {quote source="blahblah" link="doubleUdoubleUdoubleU"}
