Think this is the only ARPG that melee is shit in.

Can confirm , melee dominates in Grim Dawn .

Nah, if i where to get that kind of AOE investment, it would be more efficient to simply roll a ranger and go crit/bow instead, deal more dps, get better coverage and most probable also more ehp.

But it's a valid concern when it comes to "melee".

If GGG really wants to push "AOE melee" as a thing, they should just do so and offer aoe scaling on melee nodes and make the baseline aoe's greater for melee skills.

It's a valid strategy to make "melee" compete with casters and rangers, though it sacrifices a big chunk of the "melee experience".

But at least your animation is still swinging a weapon, unlike a newly teased "melee channel skill".

I'm not opposed to GGG going the mass aoe nuke melee route at this stage, considering the alternatives would cost them greatly.

Hmmfffsss, yeah....exactly.

If there going to make "weapon magic", which this basically is, at least make it visually appealing and work in some actual melee elements.

Not just standing there with your empty hands in the air "channeling" like a dunce, weapons sheathed and all.

Weapon magic works for the shadow's side of the tree, it's basically like ethereal knives that scales from the weapon your holding rather then a static value, but even EK has the visual pleasantness of throwing a barrage of "weapons/daggers".

Guess you can tell i am kind of let down by the reveal. It's probably going to be a good skill though, but if it's not visually engaging i won't even bother.

The main reason for that is that those games have defined classes, while PoE doesn't. This lets them make melee classes tankier than range classes and it gives a balance, and it's much harder in PoE. Now I've only played Torchlight and Diablo but in torchlight everything's awesome and you're always a badass, and Diablo 3 is so over constrained none of your choices matter and both of those are easy to balance, in diablo 2 melee was mostly worse but you needed to single target a boss, people still mostly played melee classes and used the range skills in them.

So, just why not add to all real melee free fortify? and fortify gem just remove? Also as part of fixing, why not increase base life and per level to make it compared to ES (but still makes ES higher stacking then life, but not that much as now)?

Also GGG could add many strong notable nodes to skill tree with powerful defense to melee chars, it is possible and easy. Make leech mechanic working differently: for ES same as now, but for life - half of damage portion instant heal like vaal pact. Make armour adding max resist and chaos res, just for example.

And many more ways to balance game and makes melee awesome and fun to play. Just GGG dont want.

When GGG Reworked Mana Cost they also made that one of Melee's Pros... having a cheaper Mana Cost.

Been playing a Ice Crash Inquisitor and a WIP Lacerate (And probably Blade Flurry) Gladiator... surprisingly I've died less to enemies this League with my Melee and died more often on my Archer and Spellcaster. The Ice Crash had its first death today as I went too ballsy and tried taking out Shavronne in Cruel too fast instead of playing it safe.

The developers do not support melee playstyle, you can just look at all the recently released "melee" skills. This is a lost battle.
He's in Act 1 Merciless already. I can probably get him to Act 3-4 by the end of the week if I had the motivation but with the league nearing the end I've gotten into Alt-itis. And Just slowly pushing them to a new act every 1-2 days.

As I said I have only died once on him from Shavronne's Book Thunderblasts. I'm lucky on drops on him somehow and I've been able to keep my Resistance mostly overcapped.
