R.I.P. bestiary

I really liked beastiary league and I am very dissapointed it wont be integrated.

Playing it a second time in flashback after knowing the low level leveling recipes made a world of difference and smooths out the jagged and akward progression.

So since GGG exclusively listens to the kiddie garage gang of reddit fame remember in the future if there is ever a game mechanic you want kept to start a PR campaign on reddit for it.

Apparently (like we didn't already know this) this is where everything is at for GGG. All the wisdom is on reddit. It really isn't a joke. Not at all. ROFL

Yeah maybe it did. It is all opinion. But we see them repeatedly (not mentioning any GGG names but you know who I speak of) explaining their actions on reddit as if it were a viable audience. The idea of making business decisions based on reddit is so crazy. I seriously think GGG doesn't know how retarded reddit is and what sorts inhabit its depths.

Can you imagine if BMW started running adverts exclusively in low income areas where they know no one can buy their product? It is just that stupid to base your biz decisions on reddit.

No one is lumping in everyone that disliked bestiary (for whatever reasons) with the reddit crowd. You don't remember the whining on there and the very rapid response in the form of necro nets?

I see no evidence whatsoever that the powers that be at GGG (which rhymes btw) are aware of reddit's denizens' mind limitations.

Why go on there (constantly) and justify anything, apologize, etc? Just do what every other biz does and ignore it.

Yanno, it's a bit weird, but after 100% ignoring the mechanic outside of blowing up yellow/red beasts as they came up in my path... I was actually getting used to it. Though I can appreciate that they feel there would be too much bookkeeping and maintenance to make it worth the effort.

Maintenance of past mechanics is a big problem for them already even with simple things like Forsaken Masters and Prophecies (the latter of which they do a far better job of keeping up on then the former), and Bestiary added a metric crap ton of new things they'd have to manage. I dig it.

I appreciate the effort that went into it, even if I didn't end up enjoying the league myself, and I hope that they can continue the same passion and effort into the next few leagues as well. Can't rain all the time, and the sun can't shine all day, and all.

We'll see what the future yet holds. I just hope they pulled some real meaningful data out of the entire experience to figure out where they have design space to add things, though from what Qarl said it sounded like they had a few ideas on it as it was.

Bestiary is an entirely optional mechanic which only benefits the game; you aren't forced to interact with it like lab. I spent quite a bit of time optimising my beast captures only to have them throw away such a complex and intriguing mechanic. I'm disappointed that GGG would do this, it's like they are reverting an entire expansion because a vocal minority cried about it and the people enjoying it didn't spam reddit or the forums about liking it.

Well, to be fair, there are some factors that are forced upon the player (beast mods, net drops, net icon in lower right corner of the screen, bestiary screen when you press H, Einhar's initial spawns) but they are mostly cosmetic/UI.

I'm personally fine with them reserving the design space for some of the useful beastcrafts for future, different mechanics.

I don't know if it was purely a "vocal minority" which led them to the decision. They probably looked at other metrics as well. You'll notice the dev manifesto points to technical issues, mechanics-coordinating issues, and design-space issues, and does not once mention popularity. It would be an extremely petty game company indeed to cite only objective reasons for something decided on a subjective basis, and I have never known GGG to be petty.
