POE - The only ARPG with no loot: this needs to change

Oh don't let me be misunderstood....I love the rare items in POE. When I first played POE, it remembered me off old Diablo times, the second one without the LOD expansion. Nobody was dressed the same, unlike more recent versions like D2 LOD and D3 where everybody is exactly equipped with the same gear.

But (yes there is a but ;) ) I find that we drop quite a few unique items in POE, and that's good, I like it, I keep them in tabs for the collection, but I'd like them to be a little more useful. A lot of unique items are really not usable.

I also love the fact that "some" unique items have fantastic properties, while not being endgame. Tabula rasa for example.
I believe unique items should have a bit more useful secondaries (most of them should have one).
You can't have looting and trading in the same game without bound items.

Then I'd happily trade out trading.
Organic chemistry is a weird thing. If you add a spoon of shit to a barrel of jam you'll get a barrel of shit.

I love the "grinding gear" aspect of the game, and to me, the unique items need to be much more useful or mandatory to some builds. Most of the unique items I drop are less interesting than the best rare item I drop in a map. The game as of today is more "grinding currency" than "gringind gear", think twice GGG.

You know, i've played Grim Dawn, and in that game, "uniques" really dominate the game. It isnt the most exciting experience, i should say. And if game allows trading, like PoE, "unique dominance" will be very detrimental for it, believe me.

I'd rather wanted to make RARES great again! The problem with rares ATM is that they drop UNIDENTIFIED, and the odds for given rare to be useful is so damn low (except jewelry and some T1 bases), that it isnt worth spending 1-2 seconds to pick them up and identify! Game just throws too many rares at you, with too small chance of "success".
If there dropped ~100 times less rares, but each with ~100 times higher odds to became a "classy" one, players could started actually picking up rares, instead of letting them eat dust on ground.
Alternatively, rares could drop IDENTIFIED, and item filter could be able to "check" for their mods, so with advanced item filter, players would be able to hide all "useless junk", and dont miss any great item.

ya I agree.

Heres what I think needs to happen: instead of finding 100 rares and 1 is decent, we should find 10 rares and 1 is decent. Then instead of finding 20 uniques we should find 1 unique, because uniques are fine, theyre super powerful, the problem with them is that theres far too many of them dropping so they have no market value. Theres best in slot uniques that people with mirror tier gear are using in their builds and you can buy them for 1c or 1 alch because for every guy who wants that unique theres 30 for sale, the demand cannot keep up with the supply. The uniques arnt bad, theyre just way over saturated.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
I don't get this thread. In Flashback Incursion (Standard) I have 3 days played (72 hours), and about 12 exalts total worth of currency (nearly all of them spent on gear).

All I did was just explore maps on the atlas, level up and trade. I didn't farm anything in particular, I didn't even do the chaos recipe after the first 3 days of the league.

I.e. I decided on a build, it sucked, changed everything but the ascendancy class and I'm still "done" with the build in a week of playing time, while employed at full time.

What more exactly do you want of this? Just trade; if you don't like SSF because you can't trade, then don't play it?

If there is a player at level 100, in SSF in Hardcore, in the first week of a reset, what exactly is the problem with the game?

We don't want to trade. We want to loot.

So the gear I traded for currency, to buy what I needed, it came out of nowhere? If it can be traded, it has value. If it has value, its loot.

Yes, it came from nowhere. Traded item has no soul.

You don't mind trading and do having fun. Good for you.
Others want to find the stuff they need in game and not in poe.trade or somewhere else.
This are two totally different approaches to play this game.

There must be a reason why GGG introduced SSF.

I don't know if GGG thinks that they created a compromise by making trading hard and introducing SSF.
My impression is that they just don't want to touch the loot tables for what reason ever.
Let's explore new playstyles - Play it your own way, not just like the others.
Quality management is one of the most underrated success factors in every business...
GGG introduced SSF to cater to a certain audience. SSF mode is unsupported, which is bad and smells of laziness, but is better than nothing.
GGG didn't implement SSF as an error correction, but followed the buisiness logic.

PoE is centered around economy and trade, without it game wouldn't be growing but dead in the water long time ago.
Three milestones make PoE the successful game it is:

- dedicated servers (always online)
- emphasis on economy (economy centered game, as advertised on steam btw)
- competitiveness

In short: this game can't even exist without economy. It can't be questioned.

What can be questioned is:

- why an economy centerd game has no proper/convenient/functional trading platform
- why looting by design is in such a terrible state

Both looting and trading are corelated in PoE, both are imperfect at best. And what's worse, there's no sign of any incoming improvements.
No one should expect neither loot system favoring SSF, nor essential increase of item quality.

But, for me personally, there's a need of some improvements in the loot quality, altogether with a functional trading platform for those who actively trade.
