New Western Boss Zero Drop Rate

The game is already too grindy. I am got no hope for the current HC/Default leagues but I got hope for modified user leagues.

This game would already be far, far better if players could mod it. One example is Vampire: Bloodlines, it has a serious community and huge mods after 10 yrs or so after release and Troika's demise, but there are many many other games that are being modded for the best, offering player choice and so on. Need to mention Baldur's Gate too because, well, it needs to be mentioned when it comes to modding.

To be honest, it would be amazing for a lot of us here if PoE source code would be hacked&made public-->modding available. Yeah seems very radical, I know, and will probably piss on GGG's finances, but since GGG can't care less about how lots of its players feel, why would the players care about their finances? I wonder...

Haha maybe this is their plan as they will no doubt stand to make a good coin from custom leagues. I sure there are plenty of players who could balance their own league so that it was more challenging and more rewarding than GGG ffa leagues. This being the case it really makes u question the motivation behind many of GGG decisions........
When all your fears combined, the manifest was refined.
I know you really tried to understand. This is a new way!

For what purpose was this boss added? He has no drop rate so i cant think of any "good" reason now
They COULD have relocated him somewhere random on the map, off the main road, and have him drop a key needed to "unlock" the blocked path to prisoner's gate, while keeping the ability to drop loot.

Too difficult to implement?

Nah :) Would you like to search&clear the whole map for the guy? Does it seem reasonable to you that the captain of the forces that are supposed to be guarding the blockage wanders somewhere randomly admiring the local fauna&flora?

Thanks for the... passionate feedback, guys. You've made some good points.

Let me make a few points, too:

Captain Arteri was added as a part of our incremental "add more story" plans. As a named NPC, we felt he needed to be Unique. Also, the "Way Forward" quest was far too easy to complete, especially given the nature of the reward. Unfortunately, Arteri's proximity to an area transition raised some issues with how trivial it was to farm/bot him, hence the no drops.

Obviously it's not ideal, because it does feel disappointing to spend so much time and effort on a miniboss for no immediate reward (other than XP, and shortly thereafter a passive skill point). If you have ideas to improve this, we are listening and will consider them, but please bear in mind a few things:

-He needs to be located at the pass (with his cohorts), near the Graven Artefact, because he is mechanically linked to it (kill him to enable the Artefact).

-When you activate the Artefact, you must be able to see the spikes lower, so you know what effect it had.

-Changing the geography of the spike-filled canyon doesn't prevent farming/botting, and likely just makes it more annoying for everyone else.

-Giving him the drops of a normal (white) monster doesn't solve the problem of disappointment (and he would still drop nothing quite often).

-Having him teleport out is too similar to Piety in the Crematorium. He isn't supposed to seem that important. People would wonder when he was coming back. Also we can't replace him with another, more important NPC like Gravicius because this is part of an optional quest. Continuity, etc.

-Soon, he actually will drop a certain thing, which is not farmable in any way (not loot).

Perhaps you could change the area the gate opens to a place that would be good to farm.

If this is what I think it is, I remember proposing it way back when and was no doubt not the first to think of it.

I think once he drops this item, people should be a little less...passionate about this. His role in the quest will be obvious then.

edit: removed rant about quest states; got my answers. :)
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

I think that we're just going to have to learn that GGG does what GGG wants and unless they ask for feedback, there is no reasoning with them.

GGG wants us to farm randomized maps with randomized mobs. They dont want us to farm bosses. They will discourage us from doing so in whatever way necessary.

Why not just move him and his minions away from the glyph, and have him drop a glyph-activating item if anyone in the party hasnt completed the quest?

I recognize the need to prevent trivial unique farming, especially with botting in the picture, but removing loot drops is easily the worst possible solution.
