This isn't a very story based game. The reasons people play are to level and get loot, basically to get stronger. This boss only gives half of that. I don't think it's unreasonable to come up with a better solution than just no loot at all.

One monster of out so many doesn't drop loot and this Deluge of Tears is the result?

The sense of unwarranted entitlement is crushing. Seriously crushing.

Go run another boss. ANY other boss.

If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I think the point is that the better way of fixing this issue would have been to actually make it so its not so easy to get to the boss, rather than making him drop nothing

Oh it's so crushing to see players giving negative feedback to lazy implementation that runs counter to arpg logic. Maybe, the people posting this feedback want to nip this in the bud. It's amazing how quickly laziness can creep into everything once you give it an inch.

It's myopic to think that it's just about this one boss, when it's more concern about whether we're going to end up seeing more laziness in the future.

The lulziest comment was about "mastering every class" as a "display of skill". Not sure how "get five to eleven wisdom scrolls, equip +life (and ice resist when you need it), profit" is really all that hard.

The problem isn't that it doesn't give a reward. The problem is that this is completely inconsistent with the rest of the game and a stupid, uncreative and inelegant bandaid fix for something they had at least 3 other, better solutions I could think up in 15 minutes.

I agree, the sentiment that this sets an ugly precedent is a fair call, but for one thing:

this is a long-standing issue. When the quest was implemented, there were no guards at all at first. It was just a matter of getting there. Then there were guards. Then finally there were tents for the guards.

The entire thing has been sort of cobbled-together as they went. We were discussing ways to put a unique boss at that point from pretty much the start, so it's not as though this is some new idea. I would be extremely surprised if we saw another boss that doesn't drop loot from here in. It's a poor solution but it is a solution. GGG chose to be thematic rather than mechanic in this one instance, and of course the people getting up in arms about it are the more mechanical players.

The proposal that this boss 'teleport' away would be fine mechanically but not that likely thematically. Teleporting away is Piety's deal. If anything, they should have made the boss Piety in the first place -- it would stand to reason that the first time you encounter her in the Phrecian Forest would be where you saw her retreat to in the Prisoner's Gate. But it's entirely too late for that -- her place in act 2 is in the Chamber of Sins, and even then not for very long.

Basically, there was no boss there before, now there is, and said boss doesn't drop any loot simply because he'd be ridiculously easy to zone-farm. Zone-farming of bosses is something GGG have struggled to eliminate.

I wonder if they'd imagined this sort of reaction if they'd just left the boss out altogether. It probably took some work to add him, and apparently, if the feedback in this thread is anything to go by, it was wasted work.

They can easily just remove him.

My suggestion was for him to drop white mob level drops. It wouldn't be as inconsistent, would follow more with game logic, and there'd be no sense in farming him.

They are unlikely to have the games best interest at heart, and after playing through many incarnations of the game they probably have nothing constructive to offer... unlike yourself of course..... neither are their insights of any portent..... only u have the one true vision..... hahahaha 8D

On topic: seems the whole area has undergone a general item drop nerf.... keep it up and Charan's 20% residuals will have the game all to themselves..... something to look forward to 8)

Since farming bosses is so horribly wrong (lol), why not make them really, I mean REALLY challenging? You know, the type of boss that takes you a week to learn how to defeat? With complex mechanics?

And since it would be clear a big amount of effort and player skill is needed to defeat the boss, how about giving it nice drops, to compensate the player?

And since it's clear that everybody, good or bad at PoE, would be dying at least for a few days trying to defeat these true bosses, how about dealing with that annoying XP penalty? As for HC... give them pussy bosses, so they can stay alive, who cares...

Then nobody would care any more if "OMG, they will farm bosses, thiz iz bad stuffz, we need to make sure it doesn't happen - or they might get good gear too fast! The audacity!!!"
