POE 2 Complete PC Freeze while loading screen

Dude, the thing that fixed your crashes was most probably the change to win 11 23H2, the rest of your actions are most probably doing shit to fix this.

I did the same thing, went through all hardware/driver/os/software tests possible, tried optimizing/automating process cores affinity, etc, some alleviated the issue but did not fix it - THE ONLY THING THAT FIXED IT, was to make a new partition, install win11 23H2, blocked all updates and VOILA - no more crashes...

The fault is somewhere between Microsoft/AMD/GGG and probably that's why we don't see any fix - Microsoft is the most to blame here for sure.
I also tested it by reinstalling from scratch fresh 24H2 with all updates and the issue occurs again.

Fyi I'm on 5800x3D with a 4080

well if it is that simple then everyone with crashes should just test win11 23h2 with latest updates for that version only I guess, only way to be sure I think :D

even said I was not sure which one of the steps fixed it !

but also have to say my whole pc feels way way better in general now too after those chipset and bios stuff, idk lol

I still have no crashes since my posts btw !

hope anyway where ever the root of problem is that it is fixed sooner rather than later, I also sent my dxdiag.txt to GGG and when I read it there was some entries from when poe2 crashed for me before my changes as well, so maybe it will help them :S

I've said this a few times, what's a few times more?

Have those that are crashing checked their virtual ram settings? They should be 1.5 times the amount of ram in your system for minimum, and 3 times for the maximum. For some reason, mine was defaulted to a hard 4gb, though I have 16gb in my system.

Multiply your ram by 1024, then times 1.5/3 for the values to input.

Once I did this, nearly all of my poe uncrasher "not responding" issues went away, and no CTD. After the recent crash patch, I've had none. Just about ready to stop using POE uncrasher, as it doesn't report any "not responding" anymore.

Just take a peek at your virtual ram and make sure it's set the way I described. It helped me a lot. Hope it helps you.
At this point I just wanna know if this will ever be fixed?

Or has GGG given up?

An update to my earlier post, I found something very strange to work because I basically gave up finding a fix and decided to live with the consistent 30min crash to desktop.

Then I decided heck let's just update to the latest Nvidia Driver available and also install the Nvidia App (personally I like it as it takes care of optimization and I don't have to think about it).

Allowing the Nvidia App to optimize POE2 it had a few different in-game graphic settings versus what I set manually. Some notable differences:

- Full Screen vs Windowed Full Screen before
- 16x Texture Filtering vs 8x before
- Triple Buffering Off vs On before
- Power Management Optimal vs High performance before

I played between 30min-1hour per day for the last 4 days and no crashes during gameplay except when I try to Alt+Tab to trade and/or look up guide. It wouldn't crash in all instances of Alt+Tab either... ... it was 50/50 chance

Somehow the Nvidia App recommended settings has stabilized the game but now I'm in full screen mode... can't use item check overlays and Alt+Tab to trade or look up guide is now 50/50 chance crash LOL

This game brahhhhhh.

This is not a crash to desktop issue. This issue is a total freeze of computer that requires a restart. The freeze always (with rare exceptions) happens during loading of a new map. What you are describing is something completely different. I for example, have never crashed when alt tabbing or during gameplay or in town, only when loading maps.

The only way to protect the system from its crash is to virtualize poe 2 process from the host OS. The workaround I proposed already helped to some users in this thread. Sure, the problem still persists in the system and must be addressed.

anyone tried speaking to a lawyer regarding a class action lawsuit? cause surely selling a product thats actively damaging peoples computers and they KNOW that thats gotta be fkn illegal right? basically selling people a virus at that point.

Hey,

Just checked back in to see if this is still happening after almost two months away from playing regularly.

You can't sue them for early access. Even when the game goes full release, I'm unsure if you can take legal action. However, if enough people report the problems to Steam, it could possibly get removed from their store temporarily. Which would hurt them, immensely.

At this point, with such an egregiously irresponsible response to an issue that has destroyed people's computers, they deserve to be hurt. The moment they found out this was destroying people's computers this should have been top priority for them, but this entire thread has a total of three staff replies, all of which have been pretty useless, and haven't acknowledged or apologized for the very real damage they have done.

Go to the store page on steam, on the right hand side there is a column with various bits of info (friends who play the game, supported languages, etc.), at the bottom of that column there is a flag icon, click that to report.

Explain that the game is actually breaking people's systems.

I plan to continue filing reports at a consistent clip until they, at the very least, start having an actual dialogue about what they are doing to fix this. The radio silence is absolutely ridiculous.

I would also leave a negative review explaining what's happening to warn people off from playing the game.

It sucks. The game is good, but I haven't seen a more disappointing community response to anything in my entire time gaming. They should be embarrassed.

it does not damage your computer

but i am 99% sure, after i had my PC lock up and i had to force restart my PC over 30 times, i had some serious corrupted windows system files

my computer started acting weird over time, until eventually it started to get really bad, i then decided to try to do a windows FULL RESET and everything was fixed and my PC has no issues now

PC is like brand new now

i knew POE 2 didn't damage my PC, because i dont believe that is possible, so i was really confused for a while

and it turns out my PC wasnt damaged but my windows system files (or something) got really fucked, and i am certain it is because of the POE 2 constant crashes

so do a full reset if your computer is strange from this

and i just want to clarify, im not talking about the quick reset that takes 30 minutes or whatever

i'm talking about the full reset that can take anywhere up to 6-7 hours to complete

oh i almost forgot to mention, i'm not having any crashes anymore since i came back

which was about 3 days ago. i've played many hours over 3 days and i haven't had a single crash

and my PC used to crash constantly played POE2, i couldnt even keep track how many times i force restarted my PC

but apperantly some people are still having issues, but i think a lot of people are going to be able to play soon like i can now, because whatever they changed since my 2(?) months break has been solved

my specs:

7800X3D
4090
32GB ram

It does.

There have been numerous reports of the lock up bricking people's components in this thread. Whether you want to believe that or not, I don't care, but that is what a lot of people have claimed.

Regardless, computer lock up and hard reboots ARE taxing on PCs which can lead to hardware malfunctions down the road. That's a fact. That's not up for debate.

Don't buy those components next time. Ask your vendors to make Reset button actually safe to use. If it's neccessary, force them to change ATX / ACPI stardard. You can't blame user mode application for bricking your PC, it's absurd. Try to sue GGG and enjoy the fail.
