TRADE is such a detriment to POE 2 being fun

One last time...

I LOVE this genre and really like POE 2 so far.

I like killing monsters and growing stronger, and participating in end game and getting as strong as possible, but I dislike trade.

I hate playing a gimped character more than I dislike trade, so I force myself to engage in trade to keep up the power levels as I grit my teeth.

If you don't like trading. DON'T ENGAGE WITH IT.
It's like not liking heroine, BUT SHOOTING UP ANYWAY.

That's not a great analogy. A better one would be sports players dislike steroid use, but for a long time to be competitive you had to shoot up to compete in sports. So why don't you just quit professional baseball if you don't want to compete at that level?

Because some people want to compete at that level.

But steroid use inherently cheapens the struggle to improve ourselves, and removes the magic of self improvement.

Really lost with this thread. No one is forcing you to trade. I havent traded once.

And then you get the people saying "just ignore it*" like that's a solution to trade infecting their design decisions on every level

*play SSF

Yeah, Diablo 4 was already ruined even moreso by the fact that big content creators complained about lack of trading, leading to Blizzard vacuuming out 95% or more of the gold gain from game activities and forcing us to engage with a trade economy with no first party features and prices determined by how hard the gold farming bots were working.
I don't really mind POE2 having trading as it was a major feature in POE1 and SSF players seemed to get by just fine, but not having some kind of boost to SSF play similar to Last Epoch's factions feels like a lack of evolution.

That's not true though. Because the game is designed to have items balanced around randomized randomized randomizations.

The fact is those who participate in trade will acquire items faster, they will trade for more currency items that they need.

You know what's worse? Not being able to trade for an item or currency. If I could trade for support gems, I'd be playing right now. If people could trade for gold, they could respec the builds that were bricked after the patch.

At least they have an option to acquire gear for a different build if they want to use it.

You can also argue that this game has a passive skill tree and lets you fill it in suboptimally. They should just have a preset path. That they shouldn't let you gemcut into a suboptimal support skill. It should force the recommended choice.

To be honest with you, I wouldn't mind a casual mode with the option to turn on AI to do some of the more menial tasks like inventory management, but this is not Diablo. I am asking for a sandwich at a hardware store. This game is not really for casuals in that way, and I will wait until they buff support gem drops to start playing again. There are plenty of games to play in the mean time.

Once you get a taste of power through a trade, it's hard not to keep going. It feels like you're nerfing yourself by crafting your own gear, and if the only "solution" is to be playing a mode which is severely unpopular then I have to say it's a game design flaw at that point.

100% this. Trading is like a drug, you get the easy spike of power in your arm and you start thinking, "Oh I can just trade for better items, and trade and trade"

It's the "Make easy" button, not just for the players, but for the designers too. It converts everything you found randomly that's interesting, and converts it at a slight exchange rate into raw, predictable power.

It's it's such a shame, because it sucks all the magic of playing the game which is so satisfying on its own. It kills what makes this game actually fun which is finding your own loot!

So your point is you dont like trading so no one else should be able to? As a Ruthless SSF player in POE 1 I will say that is NUTS. Let others play the way they want. Why on earth are you in competition with them?

And at some point if you stick with this game, you will be forced to start trading, you will start getting cookie cutter items that fit cookie cutter builds and the thrill of getting items will be diminished.
I have played POE 1 SSF, often Ruthless SSF for YEARS. Never felt the need to trade. I dont understand why you are basing your fun on what other players are doing. I will probably not trade in POE2 either. I just enjoy doing my own thing and not buying a build and I could give a crap less if someone else beats me to level 100.

So your problem is ... frankly ... you. You are measuring your fun by beating others and wanting to force them to your play style. That's pretty F'ed up. Fortunately I know for a fact GGG wont listen to you.

My Guy, THAT, is a problem of YOUR OWN MAKING. GGG Cannot help you with that.

... I can't...

Steroids... In Sports... ARE ILLEGAL! And you call my analogy horrible?
YOU AREN'T ALLOWED TO USE STEROIDS IN SPORTS. IT'S AGAINST THE RULES.
YOU ARE ALLOWED TO TRADE IN PATH OF EXILE. IT'S NOT AGAINST THE RULES.

Trading is literally supported by and endorsed by GGG. It's their website! You're literally creating your own problem and then complaining about it.

Literally no one EXCEPT YOU is forcing you to engage with the trade system. It sounds like you're an addict that's unable to control themself, so you demands that drugs be taken away from EVERYONE so YOU can't abuse them.

I'll explain this again. The game is balanced against those who trade. The game, loot drops, and currency drops are designed to be balanced around these secondary loot functionalities.

Having playing the no trade mode in POE 1, you are intimately knowledgeable with these concepts I don't need to explain this to you how much no trade limits a character, let alone players who don't like the gambling mechanics of currency items.

So what I'm saying is, there are a great many people who do not enjoy trade or the currency mechanics, and they will be severely punished for not engaging with them.

Your argument is, "It's part of the game, use it or don't".

The point is a lot of people don't enjoy them, and they also don't want to be unfairly gimped and playing a harder game for not engaging with them.

A game with very strong economy elements AND ARPG elements is like a Ven-diagram, only a small subset of players love economy sims AND action RPGs, the rest will feel off-put by them.

The players who enjoy trade will be the most vocal and enthusiastic power users who will overrepresent themselves in online discussions.
