Why dedicate my time if I can lose all my XP with a death penalty?

Think you need to actually read what we say then, rather than assume the ego ... projection response you have going on here.

Experience loss on death has nothing to do with you not enjoying the process of earning experience and if you enjoyed it, I'm not sure how your time was wasted (no one can retroactively take your enjoyment away). This is my issue. Your complaint "I feel like my time was wasted" is either a problem with your perspective (you only enjoy the destination and not the journey) or, very likely at the moment, that the process of earning the experience wasn't actually fun and engaging.

I see no reason to even engage with the question of whether or not the experience penalty serves its purpose until the process of earning that experience is enjoyable.

Don't you know what GGG do in the shadows ? They are vampiric chronomancers and eat people's time, and that, against their will, of course. Diabolical !

Because in fact, PoE2 was made before PoE1, that's why PoE2 is a buggy mess of imbalanced gems and unpolished atlas. Before the end EA, GGG would have stolen enough time to go back to 2013 and create the masterpiece which is PoE1. I bet you didn't see that coming.

How do I know that ? Well, we all know tier 2 comes before tier 1. Pffft.

Hey, So. Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, the way I feel about this is valid. Don't try to 'logic' it out of existence.

Over-all it is a frustrating experience for me, and I feel like my time isn't respected, and is being wasted when I die, and lose hours of my time.

Getting to 100 is already quite a time sink. I don't believe it benefits from more, and I believe the game would simply do better with actual challenges. Instead of game time pad mechanics like XP loss on death.

Even if the gameplay was really enjoyable, and I had a blast. And this mechanic was still in the game. I still would be frustrated with it, because it still doesn't respect my time, and I still feel like the time played is lost.

I still would quit. Many players are in this boat. It's not a 'perspective' issue, or a 'fun' issue. It's simply a harsh punishment in a game that frustrates people. Enough that they want to stop playing.

I avoid any and all games with excessive padding mechanics like this, because all it does is show me. They don't respect my time, and there's a lack of content in the game. And that's all I see in PoE.

Hey, So. Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I never said your feelings were invalid, so please don't put words in my mouth. If you enjoyed your time, it couldn't have been wasted because no one took that enjoyment away from you. Obviously, you still feel that way, but given no enjoyment was actually retroactively taken from you, I merely suggested you do some self-examination rather than demand the external world adjust to something happening inside you.

Though it's still unclear whether or not you actually enjoy the leveling process.

edit: To be clear, I'm not saying you shouldn't feel this way, I'm saying maybe this feeling is a sign that you're not enjoying the game and that other things could be done about that.

Well, I don’t like losing XP, I don’t like taking medicine, I don’t like working out at the gym to get a good body, I don’t like studying for 5–10 years to become a good doctor, etc. That’s life, that’s how the stock market works, that’s how being a Formula 1 or IndyCar driver works—high risks, high rewards. Today marks one month since the game’s OPEN BETA (EARLY access). Check out Steam Charts, not even counting people who don’t use Steam. THERE MUST BE A PENALTY! Even if I hate the idea, it’s that simple.

I looked at some accounts of people posting here asking to remove the penalty, and it’s ridiculous—they barely have any challenges completed. If they want to play without penalties, it’s simple: play on Hard Mode, where there are no penalties. There are much more important things to focus on, like fixing bugs, hacks, and exploits. That’s why it’s EARLY (BETA). I hope GGG never listens to the complainers. I play for 2–3 hours max per day—I have my family, my dogs, etc. It’s basic: if you don’t want to lose XP, don’t die, get better, or go play a game that doesn’t demand anything from you and be happy.

Odd. Well, I feel you invalidated me, and I can clearly point out several examples in the message that you sent that back this up.

I know you don't feel you invalidated. But you completely dismissed my feelings and then tried to "logic" them away.

I'll say it again.

I FEEL my time is wasted with this mechanic. A few deaths can reset an entire evenings grinding. Regardless if I have fun or not during the leveling. Something like this can FEEL overly frustrating, and lead to me not wanting to play. It FEELS incredibly unfair sometimes. Especially when a death can happen for dozens of reasons outside of your control. And each one pads the gametime.

I FEEL the game would do better with actual challenges and content in it. Over this mechanic.

I understand it probably wasn't your intent to invalidate me. That's not what most people go into a conversation doing.

Unfortunately, how most people are taught to communicate. They often invalidate unintentionally. It's simply because they've not had good examples of good communication, or have learnt what invalidating vs validating is. Which is why you see so many people arguing over this. They don't know how to communicate properly.

Not faulting you for it. But it does need to be pointed out, because it's essential to communication. This is especially important, because Video Games. Are designed to be an enjoyable time for people. They play heavily off feelings. Not logic. So when tons of people "Feel" a game mechanic is bad. It's often not good for the game. Even if it 'logically' fits.

If you want to practice it a bit. I'm willing to help.

I think you can also be more demanding of GGG.

GGG is not our sick grandma, we can ask from GGG more and more. We can ask GGG to surpass our expectations. We ask GGG for solutions to divisive problems that goes beyond the "OK" or the "necessary".

Losing XP on death, so boring. Can we get teleported to some fucking afterlife challenging dungeon when we die where we can fight to minimize or nullify the loss.
Omen of amelioration, so boring. Boring problems require boring solutions.

When you die you get teleported in an arena where end up pvp against another player who died to decide who's gonna get to keep his 10% xp.

Don't get too much stuck on D2 and PoE 1, if you want grandeur for PoE 2, it's time to ask. PoE 2 is out and you guys are asking for 0 epicness, just satisfied with maths on class balance and little lakes, trees, houses on your atlas.
