The reason why XP penalty exists and why it's not for everyone
The whole xp penalty complaining is just 100% a skill issue.
Its either: A) People who are just terrible at the game and cant reach level 90. Pre lvl 90 10% exp loss is litterally nothing, you get 90 for free as long as your not dying litterally nonstop. And if your dying litterally nonstop then the issue is something other then the xp penalty. B) People who have reached 90 and then get annoyed that they dont get the last 10 levels for free aswell. The game isnt balanced around you being lvl 100, and the character power you get from leveling from 91-100 is trivial. Its supposed to be a long grind for extreme min maxing. There is no content or gear requirements that requires you to be 100. | |
" Let me elaborate the ugly part for you. It’s a performance check more than a gear check. In Diablo it means you need 5000% damage instead 1500% damage that’s a gear check. In poe1 and 2 there’s nothing like that don’t concluded as a brain check. The improvement is often a complicated mix of changes if not a whole rework. Most people just cannot process how they can improve without another 5000% offense or defense upgrade. You can ask any xp penalty complainer if they want a 5000% defense or attack upgrade and they will all say yes. |

The xp loss is so low I've never even noticed it. Besides, the way i look at it, if I'm dying too much it's because I need better gear, better skills, more levels and maybe better playing ability to not die so often.

" No - it is NOT a performance check. Ask any "xp loss defender" if they want bosses that require multiple deaths to learn and maps that will regularly kill you when you roll problematic packs and rares that require flawless play to overcome. See how that turns around? The punishment does what punishments do - it teaches players to avoid the challenging content and stick to stuff they can clear without risk. If you can go ten or twenty maps without a death, you are either an elite player (which the game shouldn't be balanced around) or the game is just too easy. The fact that the punishment exists forced GGG to avoid making truly challenging content. |

" +1 It should be opt-in, if someone wants to be a masochist, let them, GGG shouldn't drag all of us into pseudo-hardcore mode. As if the million other penalties on death aren't nuts/hardcore enough, like LOSING EVERYTHING from your map, to the drops, to the node stats. The only thing it doesn't do is permanently kill you, which a hardcore mode exists for. None of those penalties are reasonable or add anything other than masochism. They serve no good purpose, they exist for the sake of legacy "it's unfair because it is" nonsense. Последняя редакция: NeoCyrus#3728. Время: 9 янв. 2025 г., 01:07:57

You don’t need to reach 100 to participate in ANYTHING in this game, yet you feel the need to reach 100 by any means, and at any cost? I don’t particular understand this concept really. It just seems to me like an expectation set by the mmo genre making this a normal occurrence. At this point both concepts are antiquated, so if someone is using that example it doesn’t help. One just seems to be pandering to a basic human response to being rewarded, while an xp penalty comes off to me as a means to measure your build. Some builds peak at 90, some builds suck so bad they can’t make it past the first few tiers of maps. Either way, I will admit that the balance is not in a good enough state for the player to intuitively understand this, and it can come off as too punishing. I think when they get a grasp on visual clarity, and overtuned combat mechanics, defensive stat balances, it won’t be such a point of frustration, and will instead be identified as just another tool you use to see where your build tops out. Sometimes you do have to give up on a build and try something else.

" you're taking a narrative and twisting it. At any cost? There's a reason a book has a last chapter. Most people like to finish things and level 100 is a simple way to end things for a average person. you know, closing the chapter. I could say the same I don't understand the need to gatekeep ANYTHING in this game when it's a single player game. it's all perspective it's time GGG gets with what the larger audience wants |

"You don't need to reach 100" isn't a valid argument. People aren't upset that they don't reach 100. Or 90. Or whatever arbitrary number you want to put up. They just don't want to feel awful when they make a mistake. They don't want to go "welp, there goes my last 1h of grind".
XP penalty has zero benefits for the game or player. |

" But level 100 isn’t the end of the book. Right now act 3 is the end of the book. No one is gatekeeping anything. Your build is just at a point where it is no longer able to progress in levels efficiently. You already read the book. No twisting of narratives necessary. |

" lol who says that's not the end? you because there's uber bosses? not everyone wants to do that lmao. people just want to kill things and get powerful. it's pretty basic. lol you're expecting people to spend their whole lives playing this game Последняя редакция: toxiitea#5772.
