Awesome interview, and it highlighted the problem.
Jonathan. Jonathan should just get benched with Chris. let them handle the business aspects, and let Mark take over lead of the design of the game. Just like Chris, Jonathan suffers from a severe case of tunnel vision. If something works for him, he can't wrap his head around the fact that most people don't also like that same thing. It's beyond his comprehension. To save the franchise, and the growth and success of both games, you need people with a broader scope of mind to lead the design. Mark was literally sitting there telling Jonathan to just shut up and stop talking, but Jonathan just kept digging deeper and deeper. Clinging to the same failed vision as if it was the only option. " You should watch it again then. Jon kept saying no, I don't like that to feedback while Mark said that they will look into it and provide another solution. A good leader will listen to feedback and even if he doesn't like it, he will never say it straight and will try to compromise and provide different solution to please both. |

" You can't please both sometimes and have to choose. For example during the interview zizaran said that a mob should never be faster than the player and have the ability to swarm him. I disagree (Jon did too btw). Encounters like that make the game engaging and keep you on your toes. |

" I'm sorry, but I disagree. Voicing an opinion is healthy, even for the developers. What you fail to mention is these 2 guys were being insulted, ridiculed, sweared at etc by several chat streams for over 2 hours. Any human-being will become defensive. Both Mark and Johnathan listened and asked additional questions to understand the problems at hand, this is also evident in the fact when Johnathan shut down the unique item scaling idea (Big W btw) So no, sorry I disagree with you completely. Give them time to grow into this community and role for PoE2 |
