Jonathan Was Wrong, Challenge is NOT Required to Have Fun

They don't know what a real challenge is. Let me explain. Want an example? Play Tibia. There, dying means losing real money, as you need paid resources like a premium account, training weapons (bows, magic, etc.), and XP boosts to recover. Now, let’s talk about Path of Exile.
In Path of Exile, there are some bosses with truly good mechanics, like Arbinter and Sekhemas. These bosses present a real challenge, with mechanics that can easily kill players but also offer significant rewards. However, most of the other bosses are just about "dodge, dodge, dodge" or killing them quickly, which feels like a waste of time. Arbinter and Sekhemas are the true endgame encounters, while the other bosses are mainly for gearing purposes, much like in Tibia.
Now about the classes: currently, some are extremely nerfed. There are broken interactions, like Frenzy with two weapons, while other classes abuse 100% critical chance, making any build work well. On the other hand, builds trying to use Tactician for stuns, Kitava for damage, or Monk for DPS simply don’t work. Minions are good but can’t clear maps efficiently. And Chayula? A joke.
Finally, it seems the developers don’t know what to do. The game is full of balance issues and lacks clear direction. This hurts the experience and leaves many players frustrated.
Challenge is fun, if focus is primarily on fun not challenge.

"Challenge is NOT Required to Have Fun". Agreed 100%

Jonathan was saying in an interview that he needs to be able to enjoy the game. That tells me that he didn't enjoy playing POE 1 and is being a bit selfish in saying, I want! When its us that is funding this game, or players are playing a character the wrong way, what happened to creativity, to build your class however you like.

Yeah... the "I want to come home after work and enjoy the game this way" take was weird. Not because he wants to enjoy the game, all of us want, but in relation to "what he thinks is enjoyable" compared to "what the community thinks is enjoyable", and that he refuses to make the game fun besides himself and a few PoE tourists.

Allegedly, Jonathan hasn't played PoE1 in the last 7 years because he doesn't enjoy PoE1.
That would explain why his vision is "making everything PoE1 offers worse with PoE2".

While I am against the entitlement "We give you money so do what we ask for", this case is a bit different. Most ppl supported GGG over the last years because GGG said they plan on improving and modernising PoE1 (with a massive expansion called PoE2), where we get better graphics, animations, a second campaign with the same endgame and so on.
Then they took the money, went silent for a while and came back with a "Thx for the money, but we make now something entirely different. PoE1/2? Nah, here is some weird wannabe souls-like looter game without loot.".

The problem is they are trying to make a challenge for 30+ year olds with 500ms reaction times who are sweating about maybe losing some xp, some time irl, or a few fragments.

The stuff that can be beaten "with skill" doesn't require a whole lot of it. There is no real "skill check" to make someone good at video games mechanically sit up and pay attention. Usually you just chuck on some more res/ life and stop getting one tapped.

The real problem is it is a completely different game from clearing to bossing, so they have to make bossing easier in some ways and mapping harder in some, because they don't want either end of the spectrum to easily trivialize the game. The game becomes diluted, one side of balance is about speed and screen clearing while braindead, the other is about methodical/ mechanical play while fully focused. The two opposite things players want just don't fit in the same game, unless you are going to force people to reroll entire characters into either mappers that can't boss or bossers that can't clear.

You mash them both together, having them achievable on the same builds, and it just doesn't end up working. Mappers have too much movespeed and life for boss attacks to be mechanically balanced for them, bossers need to have too much damage or they can't even call themselves a bosser.

The community would absolutely hate it if they can't SSF arbiter 0 in one run, but wouldn't it be better for the game if they didn't?

They said they were completely reworking the engine and slowing down combat, as well as making the campaign more meaningful. They did exactly that.
I agree completely, I don't enjoy having to think or engage with the game in any way. Honestly GGG needs to add an afk mode to PoE 1 so that way when I log in I log in to a stash full of divines and mirrors and exalts because it's so tedious, slow, and unrewarding having to actually do anything. AFK mode in 3.26 GGG!

And? Is it still an expansion of PoE1 where they update the engine, add a new campaign, but we still play PoE1?

Well your entire comment was insinuating that GGG lied and took your money or something. They didn't. You are just misrepresenting what was promised and what happened.

Once they port over the MTX to PoE2, they will have all the models and animations with the new gfx done, so they can port them back into PoE1 for a visual update and WASD.

This

They were very clear on what PoE2's designs was. They even showed the multiple 6-links like... 3 or 2 years before releasing PoE2
