I played 0.1 with a bad build but I still stuck through the campaign and finished it. It didn't leave a good impression though. I could tell doing the campaign a second time with a weak char would drain any interest in the game I had.
So this time I decided to give it a fair shake by using the OP build - explosive grenades. Indeed it made everything far less frustrating. Sprinting was a great change and the maps ARE improved somewhat. I didn't have to worry about RNG because I could just go to async trade and buy a weapon. After getting through the interludes though I'm left feeling that the problem isn't weak chars. This game is just boring on a deeper level. The combat is boring. The feel of the gameplay is boring. I'm not a "vision" hater or anything. I gave this a good shot twice and I just don't see anything redeeming here. I enjoy games like monster hunter, poe1 and some souls likes. I play a wide variety of action games with different styles of combat but this just isn't good. It lacks whatever it needs to be fun on it's own merits. |

" Respectful comment and even though I disagree i can commend you for your well thought out post. I have the exact opposite experience. I found POE 1 combat to be dull and boring. I guess that is why GGG has made the decision to have 2 games running and make them have 2 different combat systems. So both of us can play a game we love with a kick ass company like GGG. |

I agree.
If I had gone with Deadeye or Crossbow, I would probably be in the endgame by now. I’m struggling a bit with map clearing at the moment, but I still believe melee is stronger when it comes to boss fights. Melee feels tankier and can withstand boss attacks much better. Because of that, I’ve decided to stick with this character and see it through to the end of the season, even though Ranger and Mercenary builds are more fun when it comes to fast AOE clearing. I’m a big fan of AOE gameplay, and right now I’m playing the Wolf. I really enjoy the AOE it creates and I’m constantly trying to scale it to be bigger and better. For me, the game is much more about AOE and clear speed than pure boss killing. With the Wolf, once your uncut skill gem reaches level 13, you unlock the final abilities that shoot ice lasers across the map when you have enough rage. It’s incredibly fun to watch, and the experience is absolutely worth spending hours playing melee just to reach that point. |

+1 on this.
I think the time to kill per monster is fine, but the areas are so big, and there’s so many mandatory areas (directly and by proxy through rewards like +spirit) that the entire walkthrough is simply too long and drawn out. I really like the gameplay, but the drawn out nature of the campaign kills it for me. I feel like I’m doing a todo list that’s too long. |

The Campaign is a slog for multiple reasons.
Low Movement Speed Gigantic Areas Boring Gameplay (you use the same skilsl just over and over again no tactic) You already know the story after 1 or 2 playthroughs No experimentation with skills cause lack of Skills Gems and Gold Its entirely just an easy Campaign and its just way to long if its an easy campaign. Because of that falling back onto the strongest skills to just clear as fast as possible is the way to go. Doesnt make the Campaign fun. IOts always the same thing you do in the Campaign. Run through area to next area or search for POI or search for Boss. Its he same thing for 10 Hours straight without any changes. Its mind numbing. “The bird of Hermes is my name, eating my wings to make me tame.”
