Plea to devs to address the sexism

Lots of people seem to want to deflect this issue with the argument of, "oh the men are really the victims." Surely, none of the guys who have posted some of the terrible comments in this thread have ever really feared for being kidnapped, or abused, or have to worry about covering their drinks at a party.

This issue is so simple, there are half naked chicks chained on the main UI. The OP is hoping that the devs could redo the artwork and replace it. Why is everyone freaking out so much?

The arguments in the thread are so weak, oh there are dicks and tits in Act 3. Yea, they're briefly in Act 3. The chicks in the UI are ever present. Throughout the game. Forever.

To answer your question, if one of them was replaced with a dude, then yes, it would actually solve part of the problem since it wouldn't be just women.

This in fact does bother and alienate some players who otherwise love this game or could potentially love this game. Shouldn't everyone want this? What's better than sharing a game with someone and having them love it and talk about it to more people?

He's not saying that the women there in general are bad. He's not saying the nudity is bad. He's not saying the chains are bad. Having them all in combination, as the main part of the UI, is more of an issue than any other "offensive" art in the game, plain and simple. All he wanted was a Dev to respond to the post, not all of the woman bashing, pre-teen comments that have been delivered thusfar.

It's not a competition, guys are objectified in many ways, but this was about women. Please use tact in your comments, as you all certainly have mothers, or sisters, or significant others. Not all of you know someone who has been mistreated, but please don't take your lack of experience out on the people who want to make things a little better for them.
Hey guys,

I am very sorry that there hasn't been a reply sooner. Thank you for your feedback in regards to this issue. The development team have heard these suggestions and taken them on board.

Please refrain from posting hostile or hateful comments towards any other player or party. These types of comments breach our Forum Guidelines and may result in the player being placed on probation.
OP, I feel that you are somewhat thin-skinned regarding this issue, but I also know there are issues that hit the wrong nerve with me that don't bother anyone else I know. It's very easy to make fun of someone when we don't have their perspective. I think some of the posters here forget that not everyone shares the same mind and we all have our touchy points. I, for one, like the chained up girls and so does my girlfriend, but I agree with you that an alternative would be nice for those people who don't appreciate the current one. A moddable UI system in the steam workshop would be a great addition to PoE.

So... before complaining about such things in path of Exile...

/Rant on
Please, point your wife at a couple of nice good old games like duke nukem 3d and the newest one, "Forever", make her play them and then i don't think she would really mind the hud in PoE.
Also please, go complain to nintendo and all the others that used the "Save the princess" concept, which is anyway a simplistic stereotypization of the defenseless woman figure that can't help herself.
/Rant off

I feel that all those people that are complaining about this issue fall under the above case, they feel that a fictional character (a bunch of pixels in this case) is being stereotyped just for their gender or because of some of their characteristics (referring to skin color or maybe glasses-wearing people).
Now, i don't think alot of males got worked up in the same way during the viewing of movies like "Rambo" or "Terminator", even though they were indeed working on the simple concept of the hard, tough, over-muscular man, which is often very far from reality.

Little secret: by complaining about those things you point them out, making them bigger than they really are, and actually, exposing your insecurities. You know, you could just accept who you are, your gender and your positive and negative features as a human being, i think that once you'd have defined your view of yourself and accepted it, then it would not bother you so much to see a female character portrayed in a way to which you do NOT feel alike, because you could not effectively relate to such character.

So go ahead, stop feeling that you can't go out of the house without using make up, stop using the power you got on men as a tool to obtain your goals, stop trying to be someone you are not in order to feel accepted in a group/movement/society, accept aging (in a way that you can feel comfortable being a woman, and not a decayed college girl), in few words: accept yourself and life, feel confident about yourself, you are, in any case, all that you've got, make the best out of it, if you have to smudge some of your negative features, do it because you want to, not bacause others are making you feel like you must.

Once you would have done all the above, you'd probably will have reached an intellectual equilibrium and you would worry about more important things in life than this one.

P.s.: i don't want to impose my view on anyone else's, it represents just my ideas on such matters after some time spent thinking about them. I don't pretend to convince anyone of my view on those matters and if i might sound imperative to the reader, it will be just because of my passion while writing the above.

You know, I think it could readily be argue that life statue is a man with pretty hair.

Punkonjunk is right, there are no explicitly female attributes in the partially clothed figure next to the red life ball. Neither figure is engaged in a sexual act, and their genital regions are shrouded. In addition, Both figures are clearly rendered as sculptures rather than living human beings, which makes them works of art rather than representations of actual persons. As works of art, would these statues be considered inappropriate? In a PG-rated game, probably so, but PoE is specifically marketed to adults and features explicit violence as well as nudity.

In my view, objections to these sculptures are comparable to complaints about unclothed mannequins in a department store.

I think this is blowing this way out of proportion.

If you look at this game as a whole, you have piety who is a powerful female, you have as close to you can get to an = number of female protagonists as male protagonists (playable and non-playable). There is just as much male nudity int he game as female nudity.

I think the artist who rendered the HUD picked two females b/c to him they are more beautiful than men. I like to do figure drawings and paint and I typically enjoy working with female figures b/c to me they are more beautiful. Even if you forget everything else I said in the first paragraph and just look at the HUD individually, I still don't see it being sexist, just the artist's preference. If he wanted to do one male and one female maybe it would have looked unbalanced to him.

I think this should stop looking for reasons to get offended. It's not like I get offended by art work of naked Atlas holding up the world. It's not like it's a female stereotype to be chained to a mana globe.

You're one of those people that looks for things to get offended by right?

I must ask as well, do you watch TV or movies or do you avoid those as well out of principle? Do you actively avoid any and all products advertised by lightly dressed women in it? Does your wife only shop for clothes that isn't being sold by companies putting up billboards with half naked women on them? Hell why are you even on the internet, the amount of sexism available here must mean you should avoid it like the plague out of pure principle.

You hopefully see where I'm going with this by now, if you don't avoid doing all of the above I'd simply say you're a hypocrite.

Something like this that isn't universally offensive means you chose to be offended by it instead of just seeing it for what it is, an art choice that in no way shape or form is intended to offend.

Of course, for most of us here this is a very silly complaint and I do agree with many of the posters that this has absolutely nothing to do with sexism; however, would it be so bad if we could mod the UI? I think the public making fun of OP is a bit far, regardless of your point of view, manners are free, ya know.

Yes, some people are more easily offended than others but players being able to mod the UI seems rather harmless despite the original complaint or its motives.

Offense is more often than not a choice and catering to everything people choose to be offended by leads down a very bad path.

I really do hate the PC society that has evolved over the past couple of decades...

If GGG modifies the HUD, all that will come of it is more ridiculous threads concerning other parts of the game. This game has a dark atmosphere, it is full of death, violence, and sexuality explicit art. It is obviously a game meant for a mature audience, and clearly not for the easily offended.
