Plea to devs to address the sexism

And to add a third perpective...

Some of us are not offended by the UI, but are rather annoyed that it just looks archaic and bulky and would rather prefer a minimalist mostly transparent cleaner looking interface that just gives the required info and interaction with the game but does not obscure parts of the screen. It serves no purpose other then to block what is going on in the game with pieces of static 'eyecandy' that I don't even care about the existence of.... the interface is just bulky and ugly to be blunt.

Now if they wanted to add a lot more mature content within the gameplay itself then I would have no issue with it... even with nc17 rated content, as long as it was in good taste and suited the gameworld and lore then I would have no issues. They could also add a lot more weight to the survival and horror aspects to make the whole criminal exile against the world aspect more forefront and less like reading bazooka joe wrappers.... I mean the witch is a child murderer and yet that is never really touched upon after the class flavor text.

Really dude?

The actual female protagonists in this game are easily the least sexualised I've seen in any game.
I find Necro less appropriate than the Globe Girls.

Dingdingding! While they are conventionally attractive, GGG shows commendable restraint in character design, both in terms of the models and in terms of how the characters act. Turning them into oversexualized bimbos á la Ivy/Bayonetta/Mai/insert most female characters in most games ever here wouldn't make a lick of sense from any perspective. I'd go so far as to say the most sexualized character in the game is the Marauder. I mean, look at those pecs. Christ.

Indeed, when the savage marauder drops some of the more sexist lines in the game ("The waiting is over Merveil. Go to your husband" and "You were right to hide your face, pretty one. It made killing you that much easier"), it comes across as appropriately archaic and dated.

There is not significant sexism in this game. So there are two attractive ladies on the mana and life bars. Sure, something like a sea witch or a gemling might make more sense, but to take offense at that just seems childish. And yes, I am a cisgendered white male heterosexual, in case you were wondering.

go play scarlet blade or tera then come back here and complain about it.

There are plenty of woman who play the game, most of them do not feel victimized in any way as they are not paranoid femenazis that feel every depiction of a woman that shows a bit of skin is derogatory, the only people that regularly enforce this type of thing are extreme Islamists with the full head to toe getup which is far more derogatory than anything the game shows.

While I respect the opinion of the original poster that the orbs may offend people, I disagree with the justification or necessity of change.

TL/DR version - GGG can make everyone happy and raise funding for further development by adding UI microtransactions.

Lots of people seem to want to deflect this issue with the argument of, "oh the men are really the victims." Surely, none of the guys who have posted some of the terrible comments in this thread have ever really feared for being kidnapped, or abused, or have to worry about covering their drinks at a party.

While a great number of women may 'fear' for harm, a large number of men have actually been in serious harm's way.

Keeping your wits about you, being careful about the situations you get into (who, where and when) and being prepared to defend yourself will all help.

There is no guarantee of safety. I would never make light of a situation where someone was being abused, but assuming that only the fairer sex is threatened is not only incorrect, but smacks of sexism in itself. I don't think this was your intent, but singly out one gender for a certain treatment is generally considered sexist.

I personally know a few guys who have been kidnapped and had to fight for their lives. I've been in a few situations myself where death was just one wrong move away. Fortunately, while growing up I was taught some self defense.

Instead of teaching/preaching that women are victims and can never voluntarily enjoy S&M aspects of eroticism, we should be teaching the women in our lives to stand up for themselves and how to protect themselves when they need to do so.

This issue is so simple, there are half naked chicks chained on the main UI. The OP is hoping that the devs could redo the artwork and replace it. Why is everyone freaking out so much?

Two semi-clad figures (Keep in mind a male lifeguard on television is showing more 'nudity' than either of these figures) in bondage does not "threaten" women or advocate threatening them.

I am strongly against caving in to every politically correct "plea" to alter Path of Exile. Not because any particular one is 'wrong' but because the list will never end. Next, there will be too much gore, and then Amnesty International will be on the boards demanding the removal of all the torturing.

As for the whole aspect of fear -

"Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering." - Yoda

And that is exactly what we see, people who dwell on the fear end up suffering in disproportion to the actual harm. That's part of why counseling is so important in these situations, and knee jerk responses (in someone's defense or blaming them) are harmful.

However - if GGG has the time and resources, they could offer alternative User Interfaces. Not just more family friendly ones, but flaming UIs, Blood shooting gore UIs, Eerily Glowing UIs and lots of other options in the microtransaction shop.

They could have a more sanitized version for free or very cheap, and charge for the others based on the amount of effort to create them.

Myself, Though I don't mind the current orbs, I would go for a very minimal UI so that I can immerse myself in the game.

I do respect GGG immensely for considering the OP's request and for reading through a bazillion posts trying to make sure they don't miss the feedback of the players. As much as I enjoy reading what other players think, my eyes start to glaze over after a reading a hundred or so posts.

TL/DR GGG can make everyone happy and raise funding for further development by adding UI microtransactions.

Unrelated to the topic at hand, however your post is confusing:

"TL,DR" means "Too Long, Didn't Read." It is meant to sum up your post for those who don't have the time to read it in its entirety. The first part of your post is only one sentence. The "TL,DR" version is also one sentence, and you make a different suggestion. :p
