I agree with that and that is how I play (my "best" character is entirely self-found), but we're not discussing personal preferences. At least, not only. You can choose to not be affected by RMT and its effects, but this requires you to skip various elements of the game: namely ladder competitions and PvP. Possibly even high level mapping and challenges.

It's avoidable, but the game is (sadly) designed around trading, and trading is affected by RMT.

First of all I found any ladder system in the game that relies so much on gear which drops totally randomly and ridiculous requirements in invested time, pretty much pointless. I don't know what ladder really means in this game TBH. Are that just highest level players? Or there is something else included?

For example I played Shogun TW II game which had imperfect but viable PvP in formation warfare vs other players (same could be said for starcraft, for example) - I was among two hundreds best players in the world (from 25K of players) and it really meant something - there. Because there is not gear, no time invested required, all you need was swift hand and swift mind to go along it; I could easily beat 90% of players pitted against me and it meant something. And I was damn casual player.

This is primarily pve game, was never really balanced around PvP and I'm not assured it can be. So what does pvp or ladder actually means in this game? Fast reflexes? Being smart? Best gear? Best passive tree? Best flipper/RMTer in block? I fail to see the point of competing vs other players in environment like this - when you bring item like legacy kaoms in picture.
Races are something different, races are good, I love races but what I'm trying to say is;

Competitive aspect of this game is ... crap. But it's OK, not all games are meant to be competitive, some of best games aren't.

That is why I don't really take all complaints about OP legacy gear, RMT and economy based problems too seriously. You can perfectly have all the fun you need without them.

Everything comes from treating the game as an ego boost instead of a challenge. Putting the destination before the journey. The "OH LOOK MY HERO IS SO STRONK" mentality which directly leads to "OH NOES, HIS HERO IZ STRONKER" => he must be a no-lifer, RMTer, abuser, whatever.

And, yes, mistakenly thinking it's a PvP game, but I won't explain the obvious for the 100th time and just after TK explained it yet again.
You have to be realistic about these things.

I'm totally onboard with TK here.

Games are meant to provide entertainment in some form or another. PoE isn't really a competitive game in terms of normal leagues. It might be if there are actual PvP-Leagues which give you gear sets.

PvP in at least the ongoing leagues, Hardcore and Standard can't be really competitive in the first place because there are legacy items. PvP-Events could be done by creating special unique items (or use the ones already out in the game) and allow players to create a character of a certain level to go with these uniques. That would require build-development and actual management of the character. It would also allow to keep certain things from happening, because you can apply different rules. A Evasion-based character would be totally screwed by any character using RT or something similar in terms of not missing. If you just want a bit of PvP for pure fun and entertainment it is again not competitive and it doesn't matter that there are different standards since you basically either win or lose and hopefully have a bit of fun while doing so.

Also I don't even see racing as that competitive. Because in racing everybody wins, however some win more and some less, but you can't really lose. It is more a chance to compare how your own abilities changed since you might want to race as a witch, which mostly puts you at a severe disadvantage, but since you still get points and can't improve upon your own performance you don't really lose.

And that is the whole point of PoE. It isn't a competitive game in the first place so why should you care. RMTers will only have a single effect, that benefits you in both ways. They increase the prizes. Which only means they have to spend more and more money on buying orbs. A player not RMTing will see two effects from this. An increase in prizes for high-end items (because if you RMT... why would you want to buy low-end items) which are harder to buy, but easier to sell. So RMTers are propably the main reason why certain uniques or well rolled rares are literally unaffordable for propably 99% of the community, however they don't really have any influence on the low-end economy. The problem in the low-end area of items is more that it is so hard and time-consuming to sell these items, that nobody really bothers doing so. Having easier ways to show off and get rid of items worth less than 1ex would propably steer trading away a bit more from just high-end items.

I love pie.
Economy changing != economy dying.

/thread.
i guess if you play standard or a non league league.
Why ask Why and start by denying before you have actually tried?
It's idiotic to gate certain character builds and end game content beyond trading, scamming and RMT.

Absolutely couldnt care less about the economy and the impact of the new leagues.

Roll on the changes and lets all have a friggin blast!

This.

The economy will be fine and adapt. It's only natural.
If I have learned anything about video game economys over the years its that nomatter how fucked they seem they always find some sort of balance (even if rmt is the only realistic way to reach the top from the bottom).
