So what we have here are a bunch of "enablers".

This "all about me" attitude is what is killing games and the rest of the world.

New players, you are not welcome to PoE at all.

Of course they are, there are resets every 4 months.

Wh... whaaaaaaaaat?!

So, let me see if I got this straight. Would you rather the game stay the same for years on end, just to protect the precious economy?

As someone already mentioned, new players can (and should) start in the new leagues.

Where has it been announced or confirmed that you can replace mods on items?

source please

Go look at the teaser screenshots in the announcements. There is a picture of a blackheart with 5% cast speed.

I think the only thing we don't know at this point is how you do this, and what the repercussions are.

Just want to chime in that the 5% increased cast speed on blackheart indicates that the replacement is random.
Also, since corruption suggests an on-going process, any changes to gear might not be permanent. Regarding that, the new Vaal Orb might stop the corruption and fixate the current state of a certain piece of gear (or set it in motion).
I started playing January in standard. I seriously don't understand the reason for all this crying. I'm mostly self-found but at some point I needed a resist boost and bought a pretty decent helm and boots, 4-linked at that, for 3-4 chaos each. What's your problem with the economy? That you can't get some ridiculously overpowered items? That's not a "new player" problem. These items are inaccessible to almost everyone anyway.

And, btw all these items that were linked aren't actually meant to be bought. They are for mirror service and those b/o prices are intentionally impossible. I guess the guy's logic was "I don't want to sell them unless someone offers an unreasonable, stupid amount". So don't point them out as examples of a "broken" economy since they are not good examples at all.
You have to be realistic about these things.

Yeah, clearly it's pretty random. I'm very excited to see whether the changes are permanent, and what the downside is. We do know though that you can trade corrupted items, so if it IS a permanent change, this opens up a whole new realm of itemization and build combinations!

Was 5th March of 2013 the date when Mirrors and Eternal Orbs were introduced? If so... yes indeed, RIP Economy 05/03/2013.

Actually, that's the impression I'm getting from others that live in some fantasy PoE where there's no economy whatsoever.

4 month leagues are 4 month leagues. They don't last forever and that seems to imply that the game is pretty dead in-between leagues which doesn't sound great either.

Mirrors have been around forever.

The Eternal Orb was introduced June 6, 2013, and officially announced about a week prior. Its addition is likely the result of forum user Courageous, who originally posted his idea for the orb (with a different name) on April 6, 2013; his thread slowly gained popularity between then and the official announcement. May 3 is no day of particular importance, but that time period is closely tied to the birth of the Eternal.

Economy dies over and over, almost as if it lives in Actons Nightmare.
