Soft reset of top tier items: PoE is losing one of its key unique features!

He's not wrong in saying that mirror gloves are far better than Acuity for non-crit builds. (obv Acuity doesn't do much for non-crit)

The trick was that if you had currency, the reasons not to play a crit based build were nil. And thus, did the Acuity reign supreme.

One of the only items I didn't sell off yet. Pretty much everything went over the last 3 months to be held as currency. Originals of mirror rings I'd been buying, Foe Bite, mirrored gear, etc, everything.

I still think that 50 crit multi Mali's beat Acuitys in most builds that are near Vaal Pact anyway, but that's off topic. Selling off your (rare) goodies was definitely an absolute wise decision.

Yes ofcourse, I wouldn't feel the decay in item value of item I currently own. Since there is no league going. That is obvious.

However that bring us back to the point i made originally. There will be little sympathy for the rich. Wich is a good thing imo.

The change still affects me in a way that I can find better items. You wouldn't understand this if you don't play leagues I'm afraid.

Can we agree on the following statement: "If the new affixes lead to you doing double dps and at the same time the life of the mobs is doubled, then you gained nothing?"

Yes, but it's not the determing factor for me when finding items. Higher tiers means different possibilities of finding high tier items.

There's several underlining issues with telling people 1 thing then going and doing the exact opposite to what you originally said. It mostly becomes a trust issue now and who knows what other things GGG promised one day, then about faces the next?

I understand your point here. Chris may have very well intended not to change these things but then decided to change his mind. I don't see it as a huge breach of trust the way you do but I do understand how you could see it that way. PoE is a constantly evolving and changing game. How many tree re-works, system changes and nerfs/buffs do you need before this becomes obvious? People getting riled up over a single change are clearly missing a huge chunk of what this game's "about" to the developers who made it/continue to improve it.

As for the actual issue of the new mods, i'm afraid we do disagree, which is fine.

Same thoughts here, I was totally shocked when GGG said that there were making new tier 1 mods. I couldn't believe they would take that away from the players like that. I think that if this is 100% necessary, then I (and others) will survive the change, because I get it, 2.0 is going to be huge, with lot's of new challenging content we need to be prepared for, however, and this is a huge however: Don't ever let it happen again. I'm serous. Whatever has to be done to balance around it. If this happens again, I (and surely plenty of other people) will lose a bit of faith in PoE and GGG. This one time is ok to me as long as it never happens again, I don't even care what you have to do to balance around this happening again, Do it!
I am a shadow. I was born the youngest daughter of a respected family, raised to fight, weep and bleed for God and the Order. I would have died to keep my mouth shut. Professional integrity, it's called. That lord sang a different tune once I had taken their children.

To me PoE was always unique in that all the effort and time that I invested in the game was preserved. Instead of (soft) item/level resets as in all other games GGG provided ways of lateral character development. I do believe that this is great game desing. Everything I did, every item I found and every time I crafted something felt meaningful, since I knew it was an improvement that was here to stay. I did not mind grinding the hell out of the game because I knew, in the end, it would increase my overall "wealth" in the game.

With the announcement of new tier-1 affixes this has changed dramatically. Like in WoW, Diablo III and other games items - or rather their relative value - have now become ephemeral. It is no longer worth it to strive for perfection. After all, the next soft reset may be right around the corner.

Some might argue, that the old top-tier Items are still good. That is true. But their relative value has decreased dramatically with today's announcement. I would estimate that today I lost the equivalent of about 2k to 3k ex in item value. Of course this hurts a lot. However, that is not the main point. I have enought et/ex/mirrors to be fully equipped in the new tier-1 stuff within a week of PoE 2.0 going live.

What is much worse is that I feel that this will happen again. And again. And again. This is what drove me from WoW and all the other games. I want my time investment to be meaningful. I really, really don't like it when the results of several hundres, if not thousands, of hours of gameplay is simply taken away.

Some might argue: "But Faedris, did you not enjoy those hundreds of hours of playing PoE?" I sure did. However I did so, because I was "working" towards a permanent goal - a perfectly crafted item, for example. If you take the permanency of the (value of the) item awyay my fun is gone. Grinding for perfect itmes feels meaningless to me, if they are no longer perfect after the next patch.

I sure will enjoy PoE 2.0 anyway and continue to support it. However I do believe that this is a very, very bad design decision. If it is really *neccessary* to introduce new, higher tier affixes (I do not really see this), at least provide some form of trade in for the old 6*t1 items and mirrored 6*t1 items. It does not have to be 100% of the average crafting cost or a whole mirror but at least preserve some of our efforts.

I fully feel you, and agree with you!

- Also, i chould had sword i´ve seen Chris saying that they would NEVER up the Suf/Pref stuff.
EVER!

That would been around early days of Open Beta (first time) however.

It´s lackluster, and it feels fucking dumb, (At best)

I also fully agree with the OP. I'm 99% solo, 100% self-found. Of course I don't have a single item with more than 2 or maybe 3 T1 mods. But my items are still devalued, since in a month or so the items I find will probably have 3-4 of the mods which will have been T1.
poor baby.

welcome to expansions.
Holy heck this game sounds like work more than ever.

While I get your point, I wouldn't say it's like in D3 or WoW. There, with each expansion all of your items become literally worthless. With this change in PoE, your items get devalued a bit but you can still rek the whole game easily with your mirrored stuff so it's not that big of a deal imo. Also Standard is 2.5 years old now, do you guys really want to wear your old mirrored items forever? Come on.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
I really don't get why they feel the need to add higher affix tiers. Adding new base types is a different matter and I think the Maraketh weapons are great... but how can a Tyrannical roll not be good enough anymore? Are existing 700 dps 2-handers going to feel lackluster in level 80+ maps, and people are going to want 800 dps'ers now? Gimme a break.

Adding new, interesting affixes (plus the new base types) will open up new exciting crafting opportunities without invalidating any existing gear - leave the basics like IPD, spell damage, and resistances alone please.
