I see they're still busy completely gutting builds with "balancing changes". If I had a caster that relied on this ability as a core part of my defense, I'd be pissed.

I was saying this in some thread a while ago, but the reason MoM is regarded as mitigation and ES is regarded as a life extension because with MoM you're always taking damage with both pools at once and it's much easier to replenish both of them at the same time. With ES the only time you're taking damage with both pools is on 50:50 physical/chaos hits, and most replenishing methods are exclusive, you can't regen both at the same time and you can't leech both at the same time.

As long as you regain lost mana faster than lost life it's an effectively infinite resource and will behave as mitigation, ES doesn't do that except in that one special case.

its not really an infinite resource, you regen 400 mana per sec with some beastly eb char... well I regen over 400 life per sec on a lot of my life based builds, does that make my life an infinite resource? ultimately that mana regen can never fully heal you, its only applying to a fraction of your life pool, where as 400 life per sec can fully heal you.

What really kills you? Its not gradual death, its massive bursts of damage that happen faster than you can react to in most cases and all that counts is life pool + damage reduction. If you take a massive amount of damage very quickly with mom aa eb, your mana chokes out instantly, your arctic armour turns off, you stop leeching at all because your skills blink out, its not good. With ci or hybrid you take a the same amount of damage points but it means less because its a smaller % of your pool and your mana is unaffected. There are advantages as you say, but theres big disadvantages too, its different, has different ups and downs but imo, its not better.


dual leech, true, but look at just straight leech with ci on a 12-14k es pool against dual leech on a 5.5k life, 4k mana setup, you get better leech rate than hybrid, less than ci. Ability to leech both but in practice thats only really happening with warlords mark, youre not socketing life and mana leech gems, I think most casters simply have 2% life leech from a doryanis belt and a 1% ele leech craft weapon.

if your gear is really good its not a problem to get a lot of lfie and es. My main hybrid that is still functional has a 180% life build and I have I think 3,700 es, considering Im wearing a rats nest and an aegis aurora shield, aka 2 of my 3 main sources of es dont really have any es worth talking about. If I had a rare hat and shield I would have over 5k life 5k es np, and my leech rate to es would be the same as a 5k life build is getting, Id have roughly 3k hit points more than my equally geared mom aa char to take massive 1 shot/insta burst damage which is very significant. Thats an iron Reflex character who has 9k armour.


e: just tried it out,

5,000 life + 5,500 es + 8,500 armour

thats all coming from converted evasion, I just used a regret and took out IR...

5,000 life + 5,500 es + 11,600 evasion


this is on a cast on crit elemental equilibrium barrage wander so theres a lot of offensive speccing going on too, tons of crit, ele damage, attack speed etc. Like ci and low life if you have the GG gear then no mom aa eb cod char can really match setups like that, but you cant do this day 1 of a league, you cant do this ever if you are on most peoples budgets.

I'm willing to give it a go once the game goes live, who knows, we might be surprised, also that hybrid jewel thingy.

I wasnt disagreeing with you, I was agreeing, I wrote that without your quote and then pulled in the quote as it seemed relevant, sry if it seemed like I was disagreeing somehow. Youre saying what I said earlier, start of league you have no wealth, no gear and that means hybrid, ci and low life are not really viable options, and for most people they sort of stay out of reach forever in terms of having the gear to really do it justice. EB MoM you just need the chest and while its not great with just that, you can sort of work your way up bit by bit to a modest setup that offers a modest level of defense. The fact that it has a very low ceiling in terms of where you can go with it doesnt really bother most people as they can barely reach that.

I play exclusive caster classes & I used to have always this gem on my chars but this revamped AA is complete garbage & not worth use it anymore, GGG ruin one of my defensive gems & who knows what other unpleasant surprise I'm gonna find down the road...
