Empathy is the ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes, and in this case, it appears to be the ability to not miss context as well. Jew is not an offensive word. Jew repeated daily as a unit of currency when you yourself are a Jew is, well, I'd imagine it's at the very least weird the first time you encounter it.

At worst, we have non-US players (or is Adam Sandler a global household name now?) who are Jews getting rather confused when people constantly talk about trading, buying, selling Jews, and quitting the game altogether.

In the end, it all boils down to GGG's goals and market information. If we assume that GGG's goal is to maximize number of players, then the market information problem becomes comparing 2 numbers:

1) the number of players lost by having some part of their identity constantly and officially used as a currency

and

2) number of players lost by adding 2 letters to a game interface and what I presume to be "hurting my freedom of speech by officially giving in to the SJWs," however that works.

I have a really hard time believing 2 is higher, but given all the replies to this thread, it seems more and more likely that most PoE players are that tough-guy type who says, "if it doesn't affect me, everyone else must be weak, because there is no such thing as different people - the human condition is universal."

Bit disappointing, but staying out of politics/religion on forums and closing global chat is easy enough.

Okay, it's not like I have a lot of perspective on this, and if someone wants to step in and describe their personal experience that contradicts what I am about to say then go ahead, but:

I don't see how someone could possibly be offended by the name of a currency being abbreviated as "jew". To me it seems like if I were Jewish, here's what I would think if I were unfamiliar with the term:

"What, someone wants to buy jews? what the fuck? OHHHH jeweller's orbs. Haha ok. Jew = jeweller's, that's kind of weird." End of story.

I can't come up with any line of thinking where someone hears about the "jew" currency item and somehow gets offended by it? I don't see what there is to be offended by? The term clearly has nothing to do with Jews, but is the easiest one-syllable abbreviation for jeweller's orbs. If people were calling Chaos Orbs jews because haha greedy Jews loves gold, then yeah, that would be offensive.

If this is a troll post I give it a solid but un-outstanding 3/5.

I've should use another word, at least for not being partically muted, what means 'a person who do not contact with others in case of any childhood trauma'.

But what can i say shortly, autism is not a disease, it is an attempts of evolution to new way of human's society life - [convenience consumption and comfort]. It lies far far deep of unconsciousness part of human mind and mechanism of genes inheritance what responds for species interactions and probably some eggheads could explain that more in detail.

Now, one could argue, that if GGG decided to increase the droprate of jeweller's orbs in the crematorium for no other reason than for the punchline "you can find a lot of jews in the crematorium", THEN you could argue how offensive the joke is... but even that would not change the fact that regardless of its offensive/inoffensive nature the use of the abbreviation is not intended to be offensive, nor is it even connected to the word "jewish" at all and shouldn't even be thought of as offensive.

What's funny is that normal people who use the abbreviation "jew" for jeweller's orb don't even think about the jew=jewish at all, or they don't care about it enough to give it a second thought. You, on the other hand, hold the abbreviation as something that could be offensive, you cling onto that "connection" unlike a regular person would.
I suppose a racist looks at the world and obsesses over races like a homophobe obsesses about the homos. This whole thing reveals more about you than it does about any "offensiveness" of a particular abbreviation.

I am willing to bet the people who play this game that are also Jewish saw the way people abbreviated Jeweller's orbs were "startled" at first, as in did a double take, and then moved on. They can understand how people don't want to have to type out the entire name or find another abbreviation just because it has a real world definition.

Funny how the people posting these threads always seem to be getting offended for that group of people yet rarely identify as that group and we don't seem to see anybody of that group give two craps about it...
