Bestiary is a complete waste of time

You make it sound so black/white, either/or. Which I would do? A healthy combination. There are recipes you only use while leveling, doable without "specific hunting/farming" - giving you "aimed, regular loot". But there is also recipes worth hunting/farming for, like white sockets on items for niche builds, aspect skills on flasks, six linked recipe, the split recipe and so on.

I can tell you one thing; I rather work towards a goal on my own than to use PoE trade for everything - all the time. I understand completely that players, previously only interested in speed farming currency to buy someone else's drops/crafts feel this league is boring. But there's much more to this game than that particular play style.


Because it is black or white. You either waste your time on it or you don't. You can't do only half of it because then you can't complete recipes.

Sockets = Vorici
Aspect = sure, giga rare tho
Six linked = you need 4 specific unique monsters and it has 90% chance of just being a divine orb because the base will most likely be a garbage 2h weapon.
Split = never seen it, giga rare tho
Eternal = never seen it, giga rare tho

Having a very minimal amount of good recipes is not worth the full commitment. Bestiary only LOOKS good, in practice it's absolutely abysmal.

I also thought that man, I'm going to hunt for sword monsters only and craft crazy jewelled foils. Oh wait, 20 recipes has rewarded me with nothing above 200pdps and only 1 acceptable foil base.
Considering all factors in, I have a lot higher chance of getting a sword done by simply collecting currency and using chaos.
I also thought that man, I'm going to hunt for mace / boots unique recipe and get Death's Hand / Kaom's Roots and sell it early high. Oh wait, I haven't found these monster again during 89 levels.

Not to mention it's quite discouraging to use any of the monster because you might need them later for a recipe that might unfold at some point which never comes.

Abyss was great, numbers showed it as well. Probably the best player retention of any leagues.

I agree with you, I jump to every Abyss i see now. It's more interesting now there's less!

That is true but I lost my hopes quite quick once I realized that I can't even do anything with Abyss items because of the currency nerfs.

I am saying dramatic changes in philosophy/design premise are jarring. There is such a thing as a more managed, gentler turn rather than jamming it in reverse while you are still moving forward. You just leave your transmission behind that way.

I am the absolute worst at metaphors. No joke.

By the way, the speed meta has not changed. The rest of the game still benefits from it. GGG just released a core mechanic that was antithetical to recent design trends. Other design choices like increasing rare and unique mob damage and still not adding better loot to bosses fully supports previous design.

Wait, you base the fun factor of a league based on how fast you can make currency? If people wonder why the next generation has problems with values, here's the perfect example.
Also worth noting is the fact, that catching mobs with summoners is super terribly crazy annoying. Before you blink, there is nothing left to catch, because you got no control over the minions. Really, really great design. ¯\(ツ)/¯

Lots of great points in this thread. Best thread I've seen relating to discussion of the league and game design.
I like the concept of the league but the rewards are truly horrible. Its so moronic that in a beastcrafting league the best crafts I've got are from essences or just regular old currency and its not even close. Its truly unbelievable how bad the rare crafting options are. To get something decent from these crafts you'd have to get lucky from one of the uniques or get one of those rare op recipes. Just seems like rushed design not thought out well enough.
About how this league pertains to game design honestly it is opposite to what GGG have pushed in the past 2 years. Whether this is intentional or not and will continue is hard to say but something should be done about the game. This is now the closest I've seen a aaa game come to emulating subway surfer on PC and just like subway surfer is successful this game is also very successful. But I want it to be a great game and not just a successful one and it's pretty hard to call Poe a great game nowadays.

You act like they did remove all movement speed and movement skills. They added the opportunity to press 'v' on mobs. Most builds kill most these monsters (except the toughest red ones) in one or two shots, that's why you then can throw the net on them before even attacking.

I just don't get it. Seriously. OK, so you're off-screening a lot of them - not a big deal. We can't catch 'em all.

Seriously. You are pressing a button before killing an enemy. Just like we did with curses back in the days.

Just got a new recipe: A stack (10) of a random currency. Love it. Got 10 chaos. Still love it.
