How to stop botters and RMT

First off, I agree that moving on to a pay to play system will hurt players more than botters.

OMG, hurt? WHICH players would be hurt? Free loaders? For f*** sake, an ARPG gets absolutely nothing from the free loaders, this is not a MOBA, this is not a FPS , this is not a MMO or a CCG. ARPGs don't give a crap about amount player population, the only thing a game like Path of Exile should care is spending players, since they're the ones who make the game still moving,.
I'm tired of reading this post of people saying, they should ban accounts, HELLOOOOOO it's what they have been doing since the begining, and is clearly NOT WORKING. The market is going worse and worse every league, but hey! Don't make a one payment rule to barrier the botters because It will make the free loaders go, better keep with the ban policy that botters don't give a shit about because they just create a new fresh account to keep botting...

So you guys are saying that better keep the free loaders than the paying players (the ones making this game go). Because let's be clear here, if the broken market keeps going, more and more players will not spend a cent on this game and in time, leaving It.

Hello GGG staff,

Me and a friend have an idea that maybe could help your game become a true paragon of modern gaming as a business model.

Make Path of exile Pay to Play for 5$ to buy, and in exchange give 50 points for the microtransaction shop. (or 10$/100 points so they can buy currency stash tab, perhaps make a one time account offer, etc)
The payment would then become a symbolic payment.

This would make RMT's and trade bot spammers have to pay to keep spamming, atleast earning you the revenue the you could lose from new incoming players (that couldn't afford to pay even 5$ one single time for the lifetime of the new account, which is not the real target i believe)

What to do with accounts that are already in the game and haven't paid a cent?
Leave them be. that easy.
If they're botters or RMT's they should eventually be hunted down since, as you claim, put "so much effort" into stopping this problem.

Now, to whoever is reading this, what do you think of this solution, can you improve it or give another solution to this problem?

I believe it would be the least intrusive and most efficient way to get rid of RTM's and botters without affecting long lasting players, either if they have paid or not.

I look forward your answers,

-Ban only the players who buy RMT

I think rmt sites and bots really does not matter that much. At least for me. I could not care less about someone buying currency.
The currency they buy does not create any injustice since there is nothing to compare or compete in the first place. Poe is all about your own experience with ur own build. Wheter its a group play or solo play.
The only problem i can think of is ingame echonomy being affected by bots and bot owners.
Now that i think of, best solution would be detecting these currency sellers and just banning out the buyers. This way rmt sites would have nothing to sell and profit for.

-Disable writing in the chat until a payment is made (reading enabled in freemode) and a one time per account offer.

I would pay that 5$ anytime. them chaos recipe are killing me inside.

Maybe that 5$ fee could enable the chat (well could be read only in freemode), enable trading etc + a free premium tab something like this

-Disable trading until you buy something from the microtransaction shop.

I think there definitely has to be a wall for this botters to get into trading, not sure if making the game pay to play or disabling trade until you buy something, but this ban waves from GGG seem really uneffective. Even if you don't care about people buying currency, then the market is screwed which ends up affecting you unless you play SSF, which is done by a small minority of people.

I just think it's pretty discouraging for someone who puts hard work into the game to see all these guys with headhunters and mirrors on the 3rd day of league. Just watch this. I think solving this is a priority issue for the health of the game and GGG should do something effective once and for all. I see a lot of people here just criticizing and not even suggesting a better solution.

-Include a Turing test when trading with an NPC
(Serious)
-Put all divination cards that give currency/high value items back to maps

If anyone else has an idea, be it good or bad, please share, i think we can help with this issue.

Ok, here's a bad idea:

Problem: Botters Using Chaos Recipe

Solution: Require every trade with an NPC vendor include a Turing test for the buyer. If you can't prove you are human you cannot trade with the NPC.

More seriously, but still bad, for bots that are farming div cards I say move all div cards that return any currency or high value item to maps. Bots don't map, right? ;)

-More investment from GGG's admins, tracking IP's that have been banned for further monitoring.

The REAL solution here will have to involve some form of actual investment on GGG's part. There's no "automatic system" that will really block all the bots without INDIRECTLY driving off a lot of players. (and hence income)

So what they're going to have to do, for at least part of it, is improve the game's in-game moderation. An admin who can see those bots moving in a way no player would could easily gain suspicion, and with decent powers get solid enough evidence of it being an actual bot within seconds.

Slap on a ban, record the IP address for further monitoring, and move on. As this goes, this will gather more information to properly identify the people running networks of bots, where they can be targeted in ways they can't just sidestep by paying another $5 (or whatever) entry fee.

they could offer more ingame options (trading, chat?) if you register your account with a real life identity.

you can only effectively ban identities, it never made sense for anonymous or just anonymously purchased accounts.

in fact i had a hard time supporting this game now, knowing that only if you support you can be punished by some community guy doing a mistake.

luckily for them, i started playing when they were much more open to the community and established alot of trust this way.

Only solution would be the captcha in the trade window or simple math question with 4 choices like 3*57=?

Wouldn't change shit, $5 is nothing compared to the level of money most of the bots and RMT make. You have to see this in perspective. Some of the RMT bots have 1000000000 exalted orbs in their stash, charging $5 would do nothing but gate the game away from a huge portion of the community
I don't believe GGG's development model or release quality would support a pay-to-play model. They benefit from using a F2P model by being able to release half-broken leagues and allowing us to beta test them and they are able to live with mass player drop off. If players were demanding refunds or cancelling accounts every league when they were disappointed with the quality or the mechanics it would be detrimental to GGG's future. More so than bots I would guess, but that is just speculation.

So basically, they'd have to change a lot more than just their business model. Players would be far less tolerant if they were paying for the game.

As for an ARPG not needing "freeloaders" I completely disagree, at least in POE's case. The community is made up of everyone who plays the game. Drop the "freeloaders" and you cut concurrent players by a significant amount, making the game feel even emptier, making trade even more laborious, etc. I don't think you thought that through.

Edit: BTW, what does "freeloader" even mean in this case? I mean, if I only bought my Gold supporter pack and never spent another dime on the game, would I still be considered a "supporter"? That was 5 years ago. Surely by now I'd be a "freeloader", right? If you are talking about people who have never spent any money on the game then maybe you are right. I don't know how many of those players there are though.

the courage to challenge any unbalanced content, and the wisdom to avoid the forums.
