Chinese players can pay money to revive a dead character. Among other things.

I know GGG wants to appear to care about the old Diablo 2 fan bases hatred of all thing RMT but the simple fact is GGG allows RMT in the chinese client and is thus being 100% hypocritical, speaking out both sides of their face, on an issue. Its idiotic that they would ban someone for SAYING they do it. Sure sure PRETEND to not like it if you have to for public appearances because some % of your EU and NA player base are kinda behind the times with the gaming hobby. But holy shit don't make yourself into a flat out practicing hypocrit. That just makes you look like assholes holding a flagrant double standard.

Let me blow your mind: Personally I don't RMT but I could care less if someone else does. RMT shouldn't get anyone banned its a backward provincial mindset that even cares that some people want to spend their money instead of their time to bypass some aspect of a game. Most games these days; almost all MMO's allow you to use officially sanctioned RMT by allowing you to buy a cash shop item that can be traded in game for in game items and currency. This has literally become the norm in MMO's over the last 5 years since it started in major MMO's like DDO, LOTRO, Eve Online and SWTOR. It even gets rid of the "gold spammer" phenomenon we see every day in global chat.

Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4.
If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.

I don't think that there is anything hypocritical about having two different policies for two different markets. It is called intelligent marketing.
Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!

I agree. You can't compare the eastern side of the globe with the western one, they are worlds apart in so many aspects. To stand by the same policies across all parts of the world would be less than ideal.
Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.
Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more.

'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league.
Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave.

"I absolutely regret the hundreds of dollars in micro transactions" seems a bit odd for an account that has a single level 90 in standard, 42 and 17 in SC league and a level 1 in HC league. or did you delete the majority of your chars ? odd if your time is so valuable to only keep one char at 90, or could this have been an account hacking? you didnt sign upto some RMT site with the same username and password did you ? ;)

normally I would fully agree, but in this point ...
At the start of any league I always delete my old characters ..since years :) When you look in my account you only find Betrayal-chars and NO standard, because I play only in leagues. (I store the data of old chars in PoB :))

I can't believe this topic is still open.

Its the definition of hypocritical, if a Priest goes to southeast asia and diddles a 13 y/o Boy because its not illegal there is he no longer a pedo because its accepted in that culture?

GGG condones RMT for a huge segment of their player base and bans people from the other chunk of their player base for the exact same behavour. This is a cowardly and frankly a little absurd double standard because its' 100% clear that they have no actual ethical qualms with RMT, they are merely doing it because some small ignorant segment of their EU and NA player base has outdated ideals and a nearly fetishistic obsession with what other players do in a 99% PvE game and how they spend their money.

As I've noted most EU and NA game players don't hold this old fashion 90's era view on RMT, most MMO's literally have official RMT

It's kinda time for GGG to step away from this policy that makes them look two faced and hypocritical.

I do agree that it would be less than ideal for GGG to have the same RMT policy for everyone to maintain their credibility and at least the APPEARANCE that they are not openly pretending they are ethically opposed to RMT. But sometimes being honest and not maintaining an openly superficial double standard means that you have to accept less than perfectly min maxed outcomes.

In the ethical world we call this consistency of ethics "having a spine".

As for not being able to compare, well thats ludicrous your statement has no logical basis of course you can and should compare. So, lets say that in the fictional primitive isolated tribe of Katanga it is okay to murder people if they are (say) Blond because they believe all Blonds have the Witch Fire hair (or something equally crazy but typical for non-rational human cultural norms littered throughout history) so its okay there.. It would be okay for you to travel there and murder blond people right? You would only be a Sociopath if you murdered in the civilized world because "You can't compare us to the other side of the globe".

If RMT is wrong in NA/EU then its Wrong in China, if they are willing to relax their standard from "Banable offence" to "openly condoned" for one market then they are 100% hypocrites in the EU and NA markets. You know the phrase "you can't have your cake and eat it? Thats how being two faced and pretending to stand for something you don't actually stand for works. By definition a double standard is hypocrisy.

GGG doesn't run the Asian game. They develop it, ship it, and then another group decides how things are going to work there.

This is pure speculation on your part and doesn't fit with public statements made by GGG (they code everything about the game which means they also coded the ability to pay cash to revive a dead character and other RMT boosts into the Chinese localization of the client.

Most importantly Chris and Brevek have talked extensively about doing press tours and marketing in China to publicize the game which you are supposing is run completely by some other company...

That company is Tencent BTW the company that owns a majority stake of GGG so "another group" is a an uninformed statement at best.

Pretending the Chinese client is something they shipped off to "another group" who then made all the objectionable RMT changes ostensibly against GGG's will; is a nice way for people who want to think the best of GGG to apologize for and excuse their ethical responsibility.
