Last night I threw many jewellers on my 2 'good' bows trying to get a 6 socket. RNG wasn't with me, so I decided 5S was enough. Set one bow to 5S-4L and called it a draw.
Later, running solo on a 26qual Mountain Ledge map this drops as a 3S-0L.
Decided I'd throw my remaining 26 jewellers at it.
It took 3 (THREE) to get 6S, and 6 fuse to get 4L+2L.
The +100% DMG works well with my Rain of Arrows totem.
The thing is, nobody *needs* a 6-link to have a successful build. You can always get by with 5-links, which are not impossible to come by eventually. Obviously everyone *wants* a 6-linked item, but the fact that they're incredibly rare isn't a sign that the crafting system is broken, just that not everyone is going to have them. It's okay to have things in the game which are worth hoping for but are very unlikely.
Difficulty in getting a 6l isn't a problem. The problem is the sheer variance in how easy/hard it is to get a 6l. Some people do it with almost no investment. Other people gamble away weeks worth of currency unsuccessfully. The variance in this game is too much.
Basically you're at the complete mercy of the RNG. No amount of player skill or interaction makes a difference. The only thing that matter is whether or not you're lucky.
This. Too much RNG (or too low "currency" drops). It's a bit silly that "currency" is also used in crafting.
Anyway, to ppl who think crafting RNG is ok...it's akin to getting 0-100% of your paycheck at the end of the month...with 100% having like 1/1000 chance and 0% is 1/10 chance. How would you like your job or your coworker that got 100% few month in a row while you get 0% for 6 months. Would you say to yourself...just gotta keep persevering...I'll get those 100% some day...I don't NEED 100% of the pay anyway. Bull-shit eh?
Man, sometimes I feel bad spending over 100 fusing 4 linking some unique glove/boots then I see topics like these...
Yeah, it's too random, crafting is booty most of the time. I'm playing around with trying to 6 socket/6 link a really good Searing Touch staff, I gave it a break as doing stuff like that is just a massive currency sink.
But somebody's gotta do it.
My horror chest went over 1000 fusings and 800+ jewels
Then wen I finally hit 5 l
2 day,s later
I try for joke some jewels and fuses on a chest
Got it 6 sock whit like 5 jewel and 5 l whit like 5 fuses then 12 chaos to make it go close to 700 es /face palm rage !!!
Imo, this is the best part of the game. After all the raging we have over RNG, RNG can be on our side as well!
Same thing, never had found a 5L or crafted a 5L before. Only ever had 1 from the vendor, back in CB I just bought it. Then this week, I was messing around with a midranged chest for an alt and ended up getting a 5L after 5 fusings. Used 3 chaos and the chest ended up very good. Then logged on the next morning, first thing I found was another 5L item.

If by "silly" you mean "exactly the perfect way to combat currency inflation, and a very smart, well thought out design choice."
D3 spends all its time trying to find ways to destroy gold (AH fees, crafting fees, repairs, etc), and still fails miserably to combat inflation. Meanwhile in PoE the players combat inflation themselves by burning the currency. Mind you currency values still shift, but it is nothing like the inflation in D3.

I see what you're saying here but i disagree with your example.
0% of your paycheque = 0L
100% of your paycheque = 4L
150% of your paycheque = 5L
250% of your paycheque = 6L
you're not 'supposed' to have a 5/6L or feel entitled. Ofcourse nowadays people feel a need to min/max everything which I have no problem with whatsoever. imo, everyone can play or aim for whatever they want.
but I dont want to see everyone running around with 6L's or watever. especially as the game hasnt been released fully yet and even if we were to consider it fully released, its still only been months, not years.
i want a game that lasts.

Who says your supposed to have a 4l? or a 3l or even 2? You get what you get and you can get over not having what you want or you can cry like most people feel the need to. RNG is RNG its been like that in every ARPG. Do you feel entitled to a perfect windforce just because it dropped? Do you feel entitled to a 6L lionseye just because a Lionseye dropped? Idiots.

No offense to you, but was this a comment to zanixx, or did you just want to add what he said?
I agree with you & zanixx. I don't think there is a number that you "need". Although, from my own personal playing experience, a 3L and 4L will do just fine. However, going from a 3/4L to a 5L is a huge different in build diversity. Such as adding life leech, mana leech or faster attacks/cast.
I just keep saying it again to others, a 5L and 6L is NOT mandatory to create a succesfull build. Any build is actually possible with a 4L even. People should in no way be entitled to get a 5L or 6L, no matter how much currency & time you spend on it. However, having a 5L or 6L ready before creating a new character, or before it reaches endgame, gives a very good bonus to your build.
@Zanixx
I can't agree more what you said in the end of your post. Most of us want this game to last years, not months.
Just my thoughts on it, although there are always people who disagree.

It is a general statement to anyone who thinks they are entitled to a 5 or 6 link when they use (insert random number) fusings which give random links. Directed and cry babies not the guy I quoted. No one is entitled to anything.
