Remember when poe 2 was just an expansion?

so you re saying ggg is a company that shouldnt be trusted. got it.

What talking point? I don't read threads. It's an obvious point to make. A supporter pack is a voluntary purchase with cosmetics and random perks as a thank you to the devs for creating a free game that you spent thousands of hours playing, using the servers that they host for free. Then when they do one thing you don't like you turn into their biggest enemy and act like they betrayed you.. It's extremely childish

1) It IS unfair and false advertising.
If someone tells you "Hey, we modernise game x" with the intention in mind to get ongoing support, but says "What you supported us for over 4 years isn't happening anymore. Instead, here is something else you didn't ask for", is not unfair... you can't be helped.

2) You clearly have no clue about PoE1, that's why you don't understand that your "semantics" argument is just invalid nonsense.

Jesus the egotism is palpable here. It isn't about the thing you asked for and seeing as how you aren't speaking on behalf of every supporter, that's precisely why I and others haven't felt cheated. What I do know is in '19 the engine and pacing during the gameplay footage was far more akin to the now dubbed POE2 than what POE1 was, and subsequently a year and a half before EA, it was announced they were calling it something else entirely. But just because you don't like the rationale for the separation into a new game that was posed doesn't mean they lied.

These POE1 players would be doing just as much complaining if it were a POE1 expansion. Instead the devs left their precious game in tact and kept all these updates (which most of them hate) separate. Seems a better solution to me. No matter what choice they make, they can't win.

Exactly. The devs made the distinction so POE1 purists weren't shoehorned into a game they didn't want. But because people didn't like GGG's new vision, they have to accuse them of lying instead. It's pathetic.

That and they are such entitled crybabies that once their 3.26 league got delayed it was like the greatest injustice mankind has ever faced and they've done everything they could since that announcement to tear down their latest project and make the devs lives miserable

Yup

GG showed a direction at ExileCon 2019. It wasn’t a final product; it was a vision.

Supporter packs came with digital goods, not a legally binding product description for PoE2.

In 2023, they explicitly communicated the pivot and gave plenty of lead time before PoE2’s launch.

So unless there’s some internal leak showing they planned the change from the beginning and purposely misled people (which there isn’t), it’s a bad faith interpretation of normal development evolution.

At this point, arguing with someone so committed to the “they cheated us” narrative becomes more about emotional therapy than factual debate. The person is just arguing semantics at this point.

Yea well said, and probably the thing I needed to hear.

It's not that simple.

GGG does not host PoE servers and keeps developing because of pure selflessness, and they can't survive on love and air alone either.

They still need to make money, and that's where the "supporters" come in.

And if you want to have enough supporters, then realistically speaking, just "skins" aren't enough; other motivations are needed to encourage long-term funding.
Take a look at "Riot Games". Even they struggle atm because their mtx system (mainly skins) isn't enough anymore. At some point, besides "hardcore fans" and "whales", most ppl already got skins they mainly use, so you need to emphasise ppl to spend money in different ways too.
And that's where "PoE2 as a modernisation of PoE1" comes into play.
THAT is a major selling point.

If you then change the direction after 4 years with this selling point, it's obvious why not everybody is in love with it.

If you then change stuff again, that the development of PoE2 will not interfere with PoE1 - it doesn't make it better.

And as much as I like GGG, if it would be Blizzard doing these things, ppl would shit on them everywhere and all the time, period.

Ppl would less pissed if, at least, the things GGG communicates atm in interview about "their vision" (the future) weren't the opposite of what the PoE community wants.

Blizzard's and GGG's monetization are on opposite ends of the spectrum. I think GGG's model is award-winning levels of fairness and "you get what you sign up for". Obviously they do not do this out of the goodness of their hearts, but really, where does it say in these supporter packs what their plan is for the money you're giving them? You're getting a ton of stuff in return, a bunch of in game currency, often physical IRL items, and the whole thing is optional. The only incentive that this studio actually gives you to spend a bit of money is through stash tabs, and I think the amount of money you spend to have the amount you need works out to about the same as the price of any other game. It's very fair. They even let you transfer your purchases from 1 game to the other. Give em some credit.

i am their biggest enemy lol ? way to strawman your way out.

they just made huge lies after huge lies and now they are one average company that cant be trusted.

the fact that you defend that tells me a lot about you.

and supporter pack is called supporter pack for a reason. otherwise it s called a purchase with a price.

and they dont host it for free. they re making millions of profit each year. omfg the delusion.

funny part one moment you say supporter pack has no particular meaning, it s just a purchase, the line after you ask me to say thank you. hahahah.

poe 2 supporters are the worst. this game attracts just the right people. game will be great for SURE.
