If all melee builds have to use one specific skill to be able to survive physical damage then I would still say that melee still sucks badly, gamedesign wise.

All melee builds dont need to use that skill to survive. Melee (or any other build) use that skill to tank <physical> damage.

There is a difference between survivability and tanking ability.

i don't know why people complain about melee so much, do you even know how hard is to play a ranged character without IR and any decent gear at lvl 70 +? i have 1000 armor /3400 hp and 77 % all resist i'm runing most of the time instead of jumping in to the action wtih enduring cry like i was on marauder, not only that but with a insane 1hand and off hand i still barely have do any dmg with 4 sockects (it's in anarchy ofc) while on my melee character i had triple the toolpit dps, and even when i'll get all my gear i wouldn't be able to just stay in front of kule and face tank him, i need to move , hit 2 times and move again Do you even know how f-in painfull is that?

To be honest I like. If I just stood there as melee hitting stuff it would get boring fast. The idea is you have to pay attention, you have to almost kite sometimes like casters do.

You can be a straight up tank if you want to serve a purpose for a group but you will have low damage, there is the offset.

I think its working as intended and enjoyable. The thing is a lot of people want their cake and to eat it too. You can be really tanky, you can do loads of damage, you can find a happy middle ground. You can't be both.

Problem with melee is desync and the armour formula. Desync is far more problematic and frequent for melee. The armour formula is seriously retarded. I don't know if devs were trying to be uneek with it but I have heard of any game that has armour working how it does.
It's pretty easy to just check just how much melee are out there to see that it is just definitely not the prefered builds anyway.

While some people might just not enjoy melee, in the history of this kind of game there always have been a descent representation of melee character, at least more than in this game.

I also agree that the problem is desync for melee like seeing your HP going down like crazy without even seeing a mob hitting you is very disturbing, ended up losing my lvl 74 tank a few days ago like that drunk my pots one after another wondering wtf was going on.
I probably lacked the faster casting + ALT-F4 pro experience i guess -.-

I decided to quit playing HC / Onslaught after that, it just felt a crap way to lose a char that I had for 6+ months. The thrill of playing HC doesn't worth losing it all to this kind of bullshit. And honing my ALT-F4 skill isn't that much of a challenge to be honest.

Anyway, this is another story.

Still, I believe that anyone who maintain the idea that melee are just balanced in this game at the moment is just not willing to be objective.

Melee are:
1.) A lot more exposed
2.) Very gear dependant
3.) Less efficient in AOE farming

The problem is not even how hard the game can be as a melee player,
it's more about how frustrating and unrewarding it is to play melee.

Usually in groups I clear the room of mobs before ranges can enter the room. I play dual melee with splash. I don't care about map mods,I facetank Brutus on maps and solo piety in the Temple. When I played ranged chars I was always forced to kite or hide behind totems. Now As a melee i just destroy the game. Melee is really what it should be. Hard at first but with right build and gear i get real freedom, and don't afraid of any mobs or situations in the game. And I do clear extremely fast.

Maybe once you have beat the game and have quite every item you can look for this might be the case. Struggling for a long period of time just to have at the end a good toon is moot to me.

Despite having played for a year soon, while following experienced players builds,
I have always been feeling quite gimped.

However I can only play 2-3 hours a day 3/4 times a week.
This might be where my problem lies.

In which case, well then it's way too much of a grind for me then anyway.

However I remember having a lot of fun playing D2 melees while still not playing that much.
I was just not that good at duelling but my char where good enough to have a good time in pve.
