Horrible lag in PoE only... offline mode

Desync is in the game for the same reason; the info of where monsters are and where you are/what you're doing is server-side. The game, however, in order to feel smooth, was designed so that you can make an input on the client and it responds IMMEDIATELY. Without this, the game would feel very slow.


I play Heroes of Newerth and all the creep and player info is server side. The game does not feel slow. The control is INFINITELY better than in PoE.

Well, guess I gotta wait for Grim Dawn which will most likely have proper net code and it does have an offline mode to boot. Online only is absolute nonsense.

Who knows, maybe a year from now the makers of PoE will finally wake up before they kill their own game.

Heroes of Newerth was made by a company (S2 games) that already had funding from prior games, already had some experience with online games, and is also quite hack prone (though it's probably pretty easy to detect hacks in a game such as HoN where things should only go a certain way in any given game).

Heroes of Newerth is server based, there are no hacks. Clients are only sent the info the server thinks they should see, so map hacks are not possible unless you hack the server themselves, yet the controls are tight and responsive with virtually no lag, and absolutely no desync whatsoever.

Yes PoE is made by a small company but this is literally the most important aspect of a game!
The actual control of your character! Without crisp responsive controls even the best designed game is unplayable, and sadly thats the case for PoE...

Hire a contractor or someone who knows what they are doing and fix this! Otherwise all other efforts are pointless. A million and one skins and cosmetics is meaningless if the game is unplayable... surely this is simple logic.

PoE gameplay + Diablo 3 netcode (or simply an offline mode) would be the best thing ever.

Saying that GGG is a small team is an excuse to remove blame.

Desync is a reason to stop playing.

Look up the definitions if you need to, but we don't need excuses. If Grim Dawn or any other game offers a smoother game, then bye bye PoE. If D3 didn't have the worst implementation and itemization, then PoE would have never gotten off the ground.

I hope PoE can do well and I understand the limitations and difficulties. But we don't live in a carebear and socialist world. Much like Wraeclast, only the strong survive in the gaming industry.

Fixing desync or giving an offline mode will help PoE overcome obstacles and succeed. It's a perfectly valid request.

I have no issues whatsoever playing diablo 3, infact I literally just fired it up and played for a while. Crisp controls and zero desyncs.

Thats why I want Diablo 3 netcode.

You simply cannot compare a 20 player CS server with a 50000 player Free2Play MMO.

You also cannot judge about the quality of the netcode, just because the server power is not as good as e.g. Blizzard's, who have developed server infrastructure since quite a while, having so much more budget.


Only the desync problem seems a bit strange, I think it should be possible to sync client and server more than every 2-3 seconds?

Rubberbanding is desync, and Diablo 3 still suffers from it.
What I don't understand is why hack threats should stop them of going for offline single mode.
Does anyone care if a mutant teenage ninja is playing almighty at home,hacking all of the content?He can't use his "powers" to affect other players,having no contact with them.He can't even trade his items,because they are not active in online version.
Is such a player the main reason that many people can't play the standalone mode with no desync?
They would've sold tens of thousands of such offline copies till now.
I suspect why they don't implement it and IMO they don't know quite well how F2P model works.The common player pays once,twice,then stops paying and just plays for free.Ofc there are exceptions and fanboys.They are just losing money,that's what happen.

Maybe, but PoE is CRIPPLED by it, as it is probably 1000 times worse in PoE than in D3.

If they do not have the manpower and/or server infrastructure to build such a server side game then stop forcing the game to be server side, especially when it doesn't need to be.

Make offline an option, those who want to play online can do so and have fun with the desyncing.

Those who just want to play the game with responsive controls and without having server issues ruin the game can play offline and have their own fun, everyone is satisfied.

Seems like a no brainer to me.
