True or False: Reflect is OP
I think it's sort of laughable how people can complain about reflect. Reminds me of people on D3 complaining about it. There are so many different builds in PoE, and if you take away reflect, then what would honestly be the point of building a tank character? EVERYONE would go glass cannon, and just DPS them down with a ranged character.
I just started a LA CI Ranger. I'm doing top tier DPS LA damage, and yes, I do 1 shot myself if I am not careful around reflect. IS it annoying as hell? Yes, it makes me want to pull my hair out. But would I want them to remove reflect? NO. Everyone would do the same cookie cutter build (yes I know I am doing one, but CI LA is really fun, and I have incredible clear speeds) so you have to look at the pro's and con's. The pro's of high dps obviously are clear speeds when doing runs, and being able to have high life leech in return from the DPS output. The cons are clearly reflect damage, and less armor/resistances from building more DPS around your skill tree. But that's why you have A TON OF DIFFERENT BUILDS to choose from! If you are tired of reflect, then BUILD A TANK. Sacrifice some DPS and clear time to maximize your survivability. Come on people, would it be fair to take out reflect, and then every tank would be worthless in this game? You guys DO want variety right? Then why in gods name would you ever take away the ONLY thing that is stopping anyone from ever building dps>tank? Come on, use your heads. No one forced you to make a super high DPS character. You made it to have that sick damage output and melt mobs like they are butter, but you have to understand that was YOUR choice, and there is ALWAYS an alternative! Plus, obviously since I'm LA my biggest problem is elemental reflect. If I roll a map and I don't want to re roll, all I do is swap my frenzy gem out of my chest and put it in my 6L lions and link it with added fire instead of weapon elemental damage. This way I'm still being very effective with solid DPS, using LMP to clear packs and elemental reflect is no problem because the majority of my DPS is physical. My biggest issue with reflect is how hard it is to move your mouse over the mob and actually have time to sit there and read the special mods it has. I think they should do something (maybe make them a different color, etc) to be able to tell apart if they have physical/elemental reflect. People have to understand that YOU chose to have more DPS for a reason. If you take out reflect from the game, then everyone will just go for straight DPS, and there would be absolutely no build diversity whatsoever in this game. What fun would that be? The best thing about PoE is the diversity, and the game would be a joke without it to be honest. To answer the question OP, YES reflect is OP. But should it be removed? No way in hell. Removing that, removes all build diversity we have. |

Justifying reflect in game is like trying to justify the existence of mosquitoes.
"But if we didn't have mosquitoes, people wouldn't need to put bugspray and could just go out and enjoy the outdoors" "Hey theah, this is Chris WIlson from Grinding Geah Gaimes. " There is no build diversity as is. You either have a reflect mitigator or you build path of life nodes. Glass cannons will still die to everything else. IGN: Arlianth

" That's like saying, why do monsters attack you in Path of Exile. "Mosquito larvae are aquatic insects, and as such, play an important role in the aquatic food chain. According to Dr. Gilbert Waldbauer in The Handy Bug Answer Book, "mosquito larvae are filter feeders that strain tiny organic particles such as unicellular algae from the water and convert them to the tissues of their own bodies, which are, in turn, eaten by fish." Mosquito larvae are, in essence, nutrient-packed snacks for fish and other aquatic animals. Their role on the bottom of the food chain doesn't end at the larval stage, of course. As adults, mosquitoes serve as equally nutritious meals for birds, bats, and spiders. As much as we loathe them, mosquitoes represent a considerable biomass of food for wildlife on the lower rungs of the food chain. Their extinction, were it even achievable, would have an enormous adverse affect on the entire ecosystem. " There is also your justification for mosquitos, so I guess reflect stays, it is part of POE's ecosystem. Return to this flameless sunder

So you think everyone should play glass cannon in this game? There's no build diversity? What game are you playing? In most map groups I play in, almost everyone is a different build. There is the obvious cookie cutter builds, that are efficient, but there are new builds people are discovering and are having fun with as well.
Are we seriously arguing about reflect damage? Yeah let's have a game where everyone and their dog can just go DPS DPS DPS without having ANY drawbacks, basically saying anyone who has a tank character is useless in this game. Christ even I play a very huge DPS output character, and I don't bitch about reflect. It is in the game for a reason, and that is to balance out the drawbacks of going tank vs DPS...how does no one else understand this? o.O |

" Reflect can be mitigated and then reacted to but in its current state lightning thorns is crazy high damage. With 2500 hp, 83 lightning resistance and a topaz flask it was still a VERY quick drop in life to <500 hp, fast enough to go beyond reaction speeds. I like the idea of it, that you shouldn't just pump numbers and rock and roll but instead react and reflex to what the game does, but that was a LOT harder than I feel it had any right being. I like the idea, I think thorns needs work. If it helps it was a level 70something map that had the blackguard caster as a boss. Reflect is okay in my opinion. It's not OP. You have to play smart when it comes to reflect. I run a fire build, so I mitigate most of my reflected damage by running arctic armor - a level 19 one at that. The only time when reflect gets really sketchy, is when I run a map and it has like minus max + half regen. The few times I've died to reflect so far has been in those situations and it has been to molten shell going off :) It sucks and is annoying, but there's nothing wrong with reflect.

" You seem to be very confused about what constitutes a glass cannon. So I will digress and ask - what do you consider a glass cannon? IGN: Arlianth

I'm interested in what you think a GC really is.
Glass Cannon is along the lines of -in a nutshell- pure DPS. Meaning you sacrifice restances, armor, health/ES, etc. I.E; LA ranger would be a good build to go GC with because you can stay so far away from having to touch mobs, and you just shoot them down before they get to you. Removing reflect out the game would basically mean there would be no point in building a character to survive around reflect, or taking incoming damage. You could go straight DPS and be the most efficient, without worrying about much. As someone who plays a character with high DPS and problems against reflects, I am 100% all for keeping reflect damage in the game. Like I stated though, I think they should make mobs have a certain aura, or effect on them that makes it EASIER to tell if they are reflect (or if the mobs are reflect) because 1 good crit and I'm gone. |
