what keeps you/prevents your solo/SF?

I can't play self-found because I always play builds with a Windripper.
You make my ochinchin go doki doki.

Your comment is illogical.
I play my own way. I don't think its fun to restrict myself to be solo. I participate in the economy minimally.

I'd do it once if there was an achievement for getting to level 90 solo/self found, but otherwise see no point for myself.
Solo self found is shit. Hence, I dont play it. Altough My first char in a new league is allways selffound to late maps because I need to get a bank roll going.
I'm always amazed at why people cite problems with SSF play but do so from a temp league and/or isolated character perspective.

Temp leagues are there for a reason, fresh start, fresh economy, ladder race... I rather describe them as a fix to a game which, as permanent, is broken by design.

Isolated characters are usually done by someone who needs to isolate a character to play SSF because their account wealth, their other characters, are the result of much trading.

Sure, there will be issues at some point for a SSF character in these scenarios.

What I don't get is why are you attracted to those methods when SSF account works well long term in permanent leagues but for a few rather annoying trade centric designs in late, late game which only result in the SSF player being required to resort to less than challenging activities rather than be stuck against too difficult walls.

Similarly with people who don't play SSF, they'll cite reasons why it sux :
I drop y unique which is no good for the build I'm playing.
I need x unique for the build I want to play.

For the first 'problem' rather than "Oh shit, I could sell this and buy unique x if not SSF" how about "Wow!!!! I'm gonna roll build z now, or put this beauty away for the day I will"

For the second 'problem', time, time, time. All things come eventually (except of course 6 T1 mirror gear). Vanilla D3 (other poor designs accepted) was a long term SSF dream, yes I played right through to farming Act 3 Merci on a tank barb pre nerf and yes I tank barbed SSF all the way to a world top 1000 paragon 100. The new D3, which is now by design SF is an abomination because they made the loot find mimic the AH to appease the audience. Time, time, time, D3 no longer has that element.

"But I don't have time", no, you don't IN TEMP LEAGUES lmao. You have all the time in the world, regardless of your play schedule, in permanent leagues, the [120M]s, where there is no fresh start, no fresh economy, no ladder race, but why does that affect you?

Sure, some people love to isolate a character in a temp league and play SSF, or even account SSF in a temp league, that's great. But if you are citing major problems with it, then for crying out loud, don't do it in temp leagues.

Food for thought on how long term account SSF evolves... To begin with the fact you don't buy and sell gear is what limits the builds you can make. But long term, the fact that you don't liquidate, that you stash and hoard, is EXACTLY what allows you to make almost any build you want.

TL:DR.
The problems may lie in your choice of league rather than your choice of play style.
Casually casual.

playing temp leagues is the only way for many to summon up a huge pile of items without suporting a single cent (for whatever reasons).

yep, permanent leagues suck because there is no item degradation.

@op:
item progression is one of the remaining challenges the game provides and playing mostly selffound doesn't feel like you bought your game progress and avoided the challenge.

age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
I have a guild that I like to play and trade with...

I feel lonely if I play solo lol
I dont see any any key!
Nothing... The current trade system insures i play SF 90% of the time! \m/
There is a fine line between Consideration and Hesitation.
The former is Wisdom, the latter is Fear.

If you start a new char you'll eventually get upgrades soon, but in late game you won't. It would be ok, if it happened becouse you already have high enough rolls on everything you own, but sadly this isn't the situation.

So IMO it would greatly increase the SF viability if the devs could reduce the crap roll factor on items somehow in higher difficulties. I am NOT asking for top tier rolls on everything, but i don't wanna see 1-2 added damages on a lvl70 sword, nor ruining a decent chest with a +10 extra hp roll when i know it would be possible to get 90 like something.
My actual solution for this problem would be making all items roll for the available maximum (T1) minus 3 tiers stats at minimum, so there would be a minimum of T3 rolls for every item with a lesser possibility of T2 stats and even less for T1. This would make a more steady gear progression, along with a better SF experience while keeping the excitement and value of getting T1 rolls.

While my solution seems simplistic to the current itemisation at first sight, you do realize that there is a factor of which base item will drop (preferred type, preferred base level, number of stats, type of stats), it would still be difficult to find VERY good items.

Thats it, i hope you, and the devs can accept this as a constructive feedback on whats happening when you actually plaing the game, and not go for trading every time.

I just logged in to say +1 to this! Now in torment i am bored, bored to play 77-78 maps to see the same rolls on items as i see from docks farming. I don't care to play for XP any further, so there is no point to play them neither. :L
