Regarding the use of the word "autistic" is actually rather apt.
If I say someone is acting autistic, I am not saying they are a person belonging to the autism spectrum, what I am saying is exactly what I am saying: their behavior is autistic in nature.
Much like I could say "that's gay" if some guy talks about how he likes sucking dicks. This is regardless whether or not he's a homosexual, the act itself - a guy sucking dicks - is gay.
Autism is a permanent, severe mental disorder. Would you say "that's, like, so down syndrome of you" or "why are you so Alzheimer's today?" No, you wouldn't. And no, you cannot claim behavior is autistic without implicitly diagnosing its source as being on the spectrum.

Would you agree that some autistic behavior is bad? And that this behavior is just the type that gets people's ire because it is something that happens in social interactions. Nobody cares if a person stays at home and builds matchstick houses, but people do care if someone stares at an open fracture with fascination and doesn't understand they should call for help because it's a serious situation and the other person is hurting.

In certain situations autistic people can appear to be the worst kind of assholes you can imagine, so is it a wonder when people see this outstandingly negative behavior and use the term "autistic" to describe it?
Yes, sometimes my son does amazingly assholy things to other people, especially children younger than him. But he does this because he's mentally retarded. If another kid (or adult) behaves the same way, the cause is fundamentally different, because the rationale behind his misbehavior is fundamentally different. Using the word "autistic" to describe the latter situation provides an implicit and false excuse for asshole behavior - he couldn't help himself, assholes gonna asshole.

I'm not trying to say it's okay for my son to be an asshole, even given his condition. My single largest concern as a father is his negative behavior towards other people, because this limits his practical access to public life - I refuse to carelessly unleash such behavior on innocent strangers, and I worry deeply about his interactions at school and at daycare. And I totally understand the ire - hell, my 3-year-old proudly says he hates his older autistic brother, and although hate isn't the answer, I do understand it. At the end of the day, I don't really believe in excuses; I just try to understand causes.

This is a major issue. I'm going to add my voice to supporting a change to this ASAP.

And why do you think so?

Because a Jew is a person, not a Bitcoin, and buying/selling things for "jews" is offensive.

Virtually no one sells gear for Jeweler's Orbs; basically the only time it comes up is currency-to-currency exchange.

I guess there's potential for a badness, though. For example, some jerk putting his while shop in terms of "jews" just because he can.

When people say something is autistic, they do not mean general assholeism, they mean specific instances of behavior perceived as stemming from autism.
Autistic behavior is such a broad spectrum of things that people have taken the easy route to just calling it "autistic" instead of all the different names a specific thing might be called.

Someone is talking about drowning puppies; you call that person a psycho. Because that's what psychos do. (Does this mean everyone who drowns puppies is a psycho? no.)

You don't know if the other person is a psycho or an autist, a narcissist, whatever. If what they say is akin to what the popular belief of a certain archetype of mental disorder usually does, you call them that. Calling someone a retard accomplishes a similar thing. But even though calling a person who likes drowning puppies a retard is similarly accurate to calling them a psycho, it's not the same as calling them a psycho.

The autism spectrum has such a broad range of different behavioral and mental attributes that they've had to start calling it a spectrum. For example, Asberger's isn't a thing anymore, now they're just people who belong to the autism spectrum.

Some people use "down's" to describe someone if they feel the need to be more specific than "retard". I don't like to use the term because it's awkward to say in my native tongue. Also, if I were to try to insult someone it wouldn't work very well because Down's people are almost always nice and happy people that do no harm. It's a negative in that it's a mental disability but it also has a positive connotation because it also implies they're nice or happy or innocent.

If someone forgets something mundane (it has to be a rather specific situation), I can jokingly say "yeah, Alzheimer's can start at any age" for example. Doesn't mean I hate people suffering from Alzheimer's, it just means I know the condition is a very negative one. If someone forgets something really important I could say "you don't suffer from Alzheimer's, how the fuck can you forget something like this". The use of the term "alzheimer's" is difficult, though, as unlike with autism where you can say something is "autistic" you can't say something is "alzheimer's-y".

No one is performing an actual diagnose when they call someone "autistic", they're using the popular belief of what "autistic" entails. It's not like "autistic" doesn't carry anything positive with it, a lot of people mistake "Rain Man" as a sort of documentary for autistic people.

I'm gonna condense this into this:
Autistic behavior = bad
Autistic people = not bad (necessarily)

You can call autism whatever you like but as long as
"

"autistic" will be used as a derogatory term.

To further my point:
You used the word "lame" despite what it originally meant. I bet you didn't either care or know that it also basically means "cripple".

You know what I find more offensive, someone offended by something. It really triggers my gems. While I do not like to link one offense to another, sometimes it just happens by RNG. Maybe I should chrome my thoughts to something more colorful.

I actually cannot take this thread seriously. Deja vu moment all over again with this subject.

Yea, I am that awesome. Seriously though, I was posting at the subject, so I am not sure where you thought I was posting specifically about you?
