NEED AUCTION HOUSE FFS

The reason I want an auction house is because I want to experience as wide a range of content as possible and try out a variety of builds and different equipment. So, if GGG reduces search options and drop rates in response, then they are basically deliberately negating the whole point of having an auction house.

ggg provided a whole league for "easy mode", absent competition, totally overpowered gear for cheap and people having masses of currency to their disposal, it's called "standard league".

the only truly competitive league is solo-self-found.

while the standard, trade-enabled challenge league does have a leaderboard, each position is recorded as an individual achievement, when there is actually no means of discerning whether the people have made those achievements as a result of a solo effort or a group effort.

the absence of a free-trade environment makes this even less competitive. someone might have a dozen people feeding equipment and resources to them, to help them reach a higher place on the ladder. this gives them a distinct advantage over someone who does not have a dozen people feeding them resources and equipment. in real life, we would call this "race-fixing".

an auction house would actually balance this out and make it a closer to a real competition. it would enable people who don't have a dozen friends feeding them resources to get some resources from auction house to help balance out the differential. but still, the only truly competitive environment is solo-self found.

...wow.

and you think that an AH would REDUCE the disparity, not further increase it.

you JUST mentioned "someone might have a dozen people feeding equipment and resources to them" - and you want this automated. like the botting would somehow be lessened with automation, instead of increasing with the relative ease of it.

Nope. People still have the choice to not trade. If you don't want auction house, don't use it.

This is blatantly not true. If an AH was implemented (it won't be), GGG would have to balance around it or players using it would be breezing through the game, meaning that players who didn't use it would simply not be able to actually progress in the game.

This is the fact that makes an AH impossible in a game like this, and there is no way you can get around it (and you can forget about account binding... GGG is even more against that).

repeating this over and over and over again does not make it true.

Actually, it is just as true the first time as the last time I've said it... The problem here is that the reader (you...) doesn't want to listen, and doesn't have even the faintest idea about how an in-game economy works :-)

changing drop rates in response to simplified trading is a DESIGN DECISON by GGG. not an absolute.

No, it is not. It would be mandated by the economy. They'd have no choice in the matter!

Yes, some players would breeze through the content, because that is HOW THEY WOULD CHOOSE TO PLAY. THAT DOESN'T STOP YOU FROM GRINDING.

Having players breeze through the content is VERY bad for player retention (thus very bad for GGG's income)! Players think that's what they want, but in reality they don't. The average player likes a certain amount of challenge...
I'm curious to know what the difference between PoE in the west and PoE in China is. They have an AH, I'd like to know how much it's impacted the game's economy, and if GGG (do they still develop the Chinese version?) had to rebalance drops.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

They cover this in their trade manifesto:

The version of Path of Exile published by Tencent in Mainland China uses the "Trade Market" rather than a system of exposing items via public stash tabs and forum posts for searching on web pages. This system is also in use on the Xbox One version of Path of Exile - as you can imagine, web page searches and textual trade conversations aren't well suited to the controller input of a console.

On the trade market, we're experimenting with the opposite end of the trade spectrum, where it's very easy to complete trades but more difficult to find the exact item you're looking for. You can search broadly by a specific item class or type, but have to look through a lot of search results to find the one you want to make an offer on. This system intentionally makes the search process harder and the trade process easier, for quite a different trade experience. We're not planning to bring it to the international PC version of Path of Exile.

In essence, they achieve the same effect on slowing down trade by making it hard to find the item you want. In the PC version, they're slowing it down by making it hard to complete the trade.
Thus they didn't need to rebalance.
Cool. Add it.

If the trade market doesn't satisfy the user in finding them what they want, they can still use the primitive trade indexers to get things they're specifically looking for.

At the very least, it'll make buying things like maps and uniques a hell of a lot more convenient.

hahahahahaha

have you seen the xbox?

edit: i find it hilarious that you're so sure an AH is a better system that you'd prefer it to our current "primitive" system... based on the chinese realm's clusterfuck, which was considered to be much worse than what we have any time i saw threads about it. haha

'it's an AH, it's clearly better!'

GGG has made claims in the past which they later backed down on. Remember the old allocation system? GGG thought the system was fine, but people raised enough of a stink about ninja looters that they eventually caved.

The trade manifesto isn't the ten commandments, we shouldn't be treating it like it is. Trading in this game is shit, and improvements need to be made to be more accessible.

I've seen videos of the Chinese trade market. Yeah, it's a clusterfuck, but it still has great potential for buying basic stuff like maps, uniques, flasks, and currency exchange. It would sure beat copy+pasting the same message to 5-10+ people just to play the game for an extra 5 or so minutes before doing it again.

it's funny because i rarely have that problem.

i even broke down and bought some specific maps last night (thanks, elder guardians). it was the 2nd time i ever bought maps (literally ever. i usually generate my own 100%). and... it was easy. i think i sent 4 messages to buy 3 (single) maps.

i did use my eyeballs/brain, though - and scrolled past the same account that had the first 10-15 listings for each map. and i also waited 20 seconds for a response, instead of spamming. only 1 person failed to respond.

tl;dr - people spam, refuse to think, and be all impatient; and then complain about the results of their own actions.

i find it hilarious to read that the same people are going to want to scroll through 25 pages of the xbox/china style AH to get a map/unique (i see you didn't look up how it works yet), replicating the same thing that's triggering them, to begin with.
