Simply giving items unique IDs does not allow those items to be tracked. That would also require logging the creation and transfer of every item in the game, which would take up a ridiculous amount of resources.

Not at all. That kind of data is just basic text and takes very little to track and store.

We're talking about 1000s of items generated every hour. That takes more than a "little."

No. No it’s not. Let’s go way the hell out there and say that there are 10,000 trades an hour. Reality is likely less than half, but let’s go with this. If they keep a week’s worth of history, that’s 10,000 x 24 x 7 = 1,680,000. That’s a lot of trades. But, really, you’re talking about just a few lines of data for each one. A Trade ID number, Time, Date, Giver (with IP), Item ID and Receiver (with IP). That many lines of text in TXT form would not even be measured in GB. It’s be just a few hundred MB.

Some sort of program would need to be created around gathering and storing the data, but you act like there’s some serious resource limitations here – there’s not. Do you think they'd store screen caps of each trade or something?

I had to take a hacking class in college (yeah, sounds fun, but it was *hard*) and the exploits we used were almost always browser add-ons.

By vulnerability:
1. Java
2. PDF
3. MS built-in networking ($IPC) and netbios
4. Shockwave
6. DNS redirect (man-in-the-middle)
7. WiFi spoof (false gateway)
8. Instant messenger (w/o patches)
9. Office macros (w/ IE plug-in)

I had a buddy that installed a homebrew keylogger and no anti-virus detected it.

The biggest take-away point of that class was that, the offense[attacker] always had the advantage.

I do 95% of my web surfing using a virtual machine, running Linux as the guest OS. I only do banking, email, work, and this site on my host OS. No 3rd party software, no RMT, and never went to 'phishing' sites, and my passwords are max length and so random, I have to write them down on an index card and keep it in my desk.
If I get hacked, don't tell me it's my damn fault.

But you didn't get hacked now did you?
It's the idiots who don't take even basic precautions that do, usually they have the same passwaord for both game and their email(and it's not a secure one).
But considering you have your password written on a piece of paper next to you computer doesn't exactly make you a king of data security :)

I was just thinking that. Albeit it's physical existence lowers the odds of it being hacked. Now if he was super smart the passwords are written physically but the language used to depict where they go is also encrypted therefore even if the card were stolen it's useless to a person who doesn't know the code.

To be honest writing down your passwords, if you know how to do it, is as safe as typing them up really; most people are too linear in their methods but I know of a few people who have patterns to how they write down their own passwords, the patterns are kept mentally, the symbols are not; it'd take an age to figure the patterns out too.

Then again my passwords are usually easy and very hackable for various things I care nothing for; they are also usually shared too. XD I can't talk.
honestly surprised GGG even responds to these BS threads anymore

Yeah. That one time when my account got hacked and I had everything back within 2 hours of reporting it was crazy horrible. It wasn't even a work day. Assholes were working on a Sunday like goddamn pagans. Fuck those guys.

Lastly, as far as I know he did not answer how he knows the person is from China, so I personally have insufficient reason to believe that the invader was from China. They could have either used a proxy, or they could have sold the password information to someone in China who then used it.

Your game account? How did you know the person was from China?

Yes, I went through my computer multiple times and found nothing. It wasn't on my end.

Doesn't have to be on your computer. You could have possibly visited a fishing webpage, your password for your e-mail and/or account could have been easy to guess or bruteforce, or your internet communication may have been monitored, such as if you were using a wireless internet connection (even if it was password-protected).

lol such horseshit... I've been playing tons of online games and complains about hacking were not even remotely close in volume to this game...
What the heck does your comment have to do with mine? Are you saying that GGG are stealing player accounts and selling them to others? That's pretty much the only thing I can infer from your statement if it was actually directed at my comment.[/quote]

When I logged into the game GGG said I was accessed from Shanghai, China therefore they locked my account. Thats how I know. I didn't answer cause I don't care about this game very much anymore. No I didn't read all the policies who does? Do you all read the multiple pages in the agreements after installing a game? I bet you don't. I just trying to make people aware that might not know. Also I'm not saying it's GGG's fault, all I wanted was something more than "sorry for your loss"

Easy when every Fing item you have is somehow SOULBOUND...not so simple otherwise.

and you don't "get hacked", you simple get your account stolen

being hacked the fault wouldnt be yours, which is wrong

it's your fault for not taking care
