Gating XP and progress behind RNG
" I suspect that GGG intends reaching max level much rarer than what it seen in most other games. I remember the pages and pages of D2 max level characters and iirc in a new ladder season there, it only takes 2 weeks before the first players hit max level. Along the same line, Chris did mention that they did not like the idea of doing bonus XP weekends for the player base, unlike most other games. In my view GGG tries to distinguish itself from other games and their mindset. GGG's version of pay to win involves creating a firework microtransaction for the community. Considering the topic, they've design choices are also good at creating other types of fireworks too :), at least for some of the players. In my view there's no universal right that a large section of the playerbase must reach max lvl, only that it is possible for a few players to do so. |

Tbh, while reading this threat and considering my own experience with mapping lvl 90+.
I find it funny how lvl 78 maps are the constraint. If anything it is the repetition and endurance that enable reaching a lvl 100 character, regardless of it being lvl 78/77/76/75 maps etc... Some people have a mind-set that can tolerate that, others do not. I imagine if a vendor would sell 78 maps for a single allteration orb, still a lot of people would not reach lvl 100, let alone lvl 95, before being burned out on the char or content itself. (totally disregarding the fact if one should reach lvl 100 in the current game-state obviously.) Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

" Christ and GGG has very weird down under thinking. It's as though GGG wants to go out of their way to nerf all that is good and wonderful just to piss off more and more thousands of PoE players and get them to quit. WTF GGG, why do you continually bite the hand that feeds you? You are doing it all wrong. Please read my previous post on why GGG should be actively encouraging us to play our builds all the way to level 100 and then be freed from exile. Why does GGG always seek to prevent us from getting a build to 100? As "bright eyes" Taylor (Charlton Heston) shouted in agony at the end of Planet of the Apes... "Damn you, God damn you all to hell!" I kind of feel this way when a good thing comes our way in PoE and then it gets nerfed and crippled. "You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration. The perfect solution to fix Trade Chat: www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2247070 |

Yea they seam to drop like candy now. Just a matter of rolling them nice which adds up to being very expensive and you need a decent drop once in a while to prevent you running out of money. Come close a few times but then Chris steps in and hooks me up a nice rare.

If maps were even more plentiful than they already are then people would typically just run white maps.
The current system is a risk/reward system that pushes the player to make risks (rolling harder maps) balanced against spending currency, as opposed to endless mindless baal runs (white maps). Of course most of the people bitching haven't put much thought into it, but GGG has to consider the bigger picture. YES, it does suck when you run out of maps and are pushed lower, but just because something sucks does not always mean that it needs to be fixed (ie: dieing sucks but you wouldnt want to be godmode). " Thread. Run +90Quant maps, stop crying. When I got my character strong enough to run yello, high quant maps, I rolled to 75+ maps in no time. If you run white maps, don't expect to be rained with maps. System works, it has some RNG in it, but it DOES work. (Map fragments for Atziri suck tho). Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge. | |

" ummmmm the focus being on re-rolling and the crazy wall between mapping and farming to 72 without maps are kinda the same thing. I've made about 40ish characters so far and only one has done a map and he died about 4 times before he finished it. I still love this game without the endgame because I love building 40 characters and they are all fundamentally different.... |

" You don't need to do that, it's all behind rng, quantity doesn't mean a slightest bit on the maps. Packsize is a nice mod for more xp. I used to do that in the open beta and short time after release was, but now I played at Invasion to 93 and never rolled (unless it was an accident) a map over 50%+ Q. I ripped there 2-3 weeks ago and quickly looking at my stash, I still have 7x 78 maps, 5x77 maps and few 76 maps, all lower maps I have sold, which were dropping really frequently also. I didn't even chisel 76 maps, 77 maps I was being soft and chiseled to 10%. Back in standard I used to run some white 76-78 maps and yes, they can bring the maprain also. I don't really enjoy at all, that character progression is based on luck. Afterall, all I ever cared about was reaching level 100. I've had a serie of 33x 77 maps run without a single 75+ map dropping and that's back when I always tried to get atleast 80% quantity on the maps I'm opening. But overall the maps are really dropping a lot more often what they used to, but still not enjoying the rng-progression. |
