[3.12] Enki's Arc Witch - a beginner & SSF-friendly Lightning Caster

Update: Just hit level 94 in Hardcore. Finally got my 6L Inpulsa's since it was going for 300c at the cheapest.. My damage output has been insane, and I dont have many instances where I feel like I might die. I have ran Basilica a couple of times, but many of the other T15's I have been too afraid to do solo. I am now going to be looking for an Elder influenced amulet that is similar to Stone of Lazhwar, but that is the least of my worries atm.

Again, one of my favorite builds that I have ever done, and my highest character that I have ever gotten in Hardcore :) Still haven't died and this is my 1st character made this league! Thank you for making it @Enki
@tom333: Eradicator is just really tricky, both his Tendrils and Bolt can deal lots of damage and the latter is also hard to see. Spellblock really helps in that fight, Elder gloves with block and a spellblock amulet would help but if that investment is worth it at this point is up to you.

Biggest single target increase for you would be a 21/20 Storm Call, the rest is up to enchantments (reduced Storm Call duration helmet, Penetration boots). This build just is lacking single target damage in comparison with some other builds, even with all the improvements i've done in that regard.

@Ranchinator: Wow that's amazing, congrats! Really glad to see how well you're doing with this build in Hardcore :)
Still waiting for much need Selfcast buffs and Elementalist rework.

Any uniques that are helpful for leveing with this build? Hitting A3 and seeing the DPS drop a bit, but my gear is garbo right now
At first, I must say that @Enki91 had created great guide for this build, detailed and clear. Secondly, I love this build's clearspeed with 4L.
I realised that I won't kill Shaper with this build, but since I've playing SSF with crappy 4L gear, seems I've reached this build cap faster than expected. For now I have 4700 life and 1500 uncapped mana and I can farm T5 maps (maybe T6). When I try to go further, I'm dying too often and losing all experience given.
I can wear Rime Game Mind Cage which adds l20 Conc. Effect but unfortunately it has no visible effect on boss killing.

So I have several questions:
1. What's recommended ways to get 5L/6L for this build in SSF?
2. Which gems should I improve quality first?
3. Should I convert l20q0 gems into l1q20 when possible?
Thanks in advance.
@jonke: Lifesprig, Reverberation Rod, Amplification Rod, Crest of Perandus, Goldrim, Wanderlust and Tabula Rasa all work well.

@Disaer: The easiest way to get a 6L would be farming either Springs for Emperor of Purity cards, or Pen/Cage for The Chains that Bind. You could also farm Humility cards for a Tabula if you can handle the loss of stats. Once you get an Inpulsa's it can also be worth it to convert alts to fuses at the vendor, but i wouldn't recommend this for some random other chest.

Use the 20% recipe on all support gems once they reach Lv20 and keep GCP's for Arc & Storm Call, since flipping them over would be a huge damage loss until they're back up to ~Lv18.

Your survivability issues may be due to missing lots of block/spellblock and Fortify/Blind.

Stone of Lazhwar has a relatively common prophecy and itself isn't that rare, you can probably farm one easily. Run some shaper-influenced maps to get shaped shield bases, with some luck one drops with spellblock conversion mod, otherwise you can try to alt- or beastcraft one. Getting a Rumi's will be trickier, there's the Earth Drinker card but it's pretty rare, so that'll be down to luck.

To get Fortify & Blind into the setup you can try to beastcraft some Sceptres until something usable pops out, that'll allow you to use the 4L for Orb of Storms and gives access to Shield Charge.

Hi Enki, for the last support gem for Arc u suggested Added Lightning Damage, but should Faster Casting be better here, more crit, more chance to shock?

Shock effect is based on damage dealt in a single hit, Added Lightning Damage allows us to apply bigger shocks or overcoming the minimum shocking treshold for some tougher mobs. Faster Casting is pretty weak in comparison, it does allow to get a shock faster if we happen to have an unlucky streak, but doesn't help with shock effect at all. Since we already get lots of cast speed from passives and double buffed Lightning Golems we will benefit more from increasing Arcs base damage.

in this case should Controlled Destruction be better?, since it adds 42% more damage in comparison to Added Lightning Damage which only added roundly (402 * 0.7) / 971 = 30% more damage?

Yes and no. It does add more raw damage but also makes us less likely to proc Ele Overload with just using Arc while clearing. If you can live with dropping Orb of Storms regularly to keep EO up, you can also use Controlled Destruction.

While I have clocked many hours in PoE, I'm not that good at it (hence why I'm looking at build guides despite having been playing since 2013 lol) so I've had to find easy ways around complicated things in the game many times before:p

Anyway, my last character was an SSF ranger and I made a couple of 6 links with her easily and very cheaply (costing only 1 Jewelers orb!) through prophesies - Navali gives one called Fated Connections where you craft a 6 link the instant you get 6 sockets using a jewelers orb. My new witch is only level 18 and already has a 6 link prophesy to complete. I'm saving it for higher level gear, but pretty much the next time I put a jewelers orb on armor or a two handed weapon it'll turn into a 6 socketed item with all the links connected. I'm not sure if you have to keep using jewelers orbs until you get 6 sockets, then the links appear, but each time I've done it it's been the first jewelers orb I've used :o I always use my armorers or blacksmiths orbs to make the quality of an item 20% before I try to craft the 6 link, not sure if that helps, but it seems just having the prophesy in place gives a much higher chance of getting 6 sockets, and they're all automatically connected using just the one jewelers orb because of the prophesy :)

I'm not sure if Navali does a 5 link prophesy, but I always find it easy and cheap to get 5 links just using the benches. 6 link is a bit more expensive and difficult! Using Navali's prophesy for 6 links in SSF has always worked out easier for me than trying to farm for cards (which seem to rarely drop for me, I always drop a tabula before I drop enough cards to make one, haha).

Since prophesies were introduced I always slot my silver coins as soon as they drop and clear the prophesies as fast as I can, I've got heaps of useful gear for SSF (including some cool uniques that I've never dropped before) and lots of currency from always having prophesies on the go, silver coins are my favorite drop now :D
