So many assumptions in your post and wrong conclusions.

Its interesting that you talk about singleplayer games without big player base, but skip the ones that have one. Look at skyrim a game that doesnt even have multiplayer, and didnt get any expansions for few years now and it has 6 time more people playing it now than PoE and people playing it for over 1000h. Its telling you something. Hack look at torchlight 2 that you said in your post. The game is same for 2 years now and is in top 50 most played games in steam and over 2000 people every day playing it, while poe has over 5000 people with constant updates every few months.

The main reason why PoE is "popular" in not because of comunity, or trading, interaction. No, its because of constant new updates and mini expansion for the game. If there where non of them, be sure the game will be lot less "popular".

What will make you play a game for 1000h? Trading? Community? No, a good fucking game with good replayability and lot of content. Thats is what is the main reason why people will play the game for long time.

I disagree. skyrim is a very different sort of game, its not an arpg driven by loot and builds, its a game you can live in. torchlight 2 has many mods, steam workshop etc, its not a game thats been the same for 2 years, and a modding community is what keeps people playing that game, so ur right in some ways. Those 2000 are likely a large portion of the people who play torchlight 2 still, where the 5000 from poe are a small portion of poes real player base, and the reason it has vastly more players than TL2 is because its an online game with a community and economy, thats the main difference in the games format.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

Skyrim is a RPG game, same as Dragon Age Origins and Neverwinter Nights. Non of this games are arpg games that you commented about. But it doesnt matter.

TL2 is same game for all this year, as it did not get any updates. There are mods, but mods are not official expansions and its very different thing when a full payed team works on updates that everyone gets compared to mods. So in reality the game is same with some tweaks.

Other fact is that torcghlight 2 is a offline game where a lot of players are playing DRM free version without steam that they bought directly from runic. 5000 people is not a small potion of PoE player base as GGG said it that steam/GGG client rations is 60:40.

Economy and online doesnt have any big difference on player base, updates and quality of the game has. You can look at singleplayer games to see the proof that economy, online and trade crap doesnt mean anything.

Wikipedia disagrees with you about Skyrim. It lists it as Action-RPG.

Skyrim is though not a Diablo-clone.

Will never be released
GG GGG
IMO, GD is going to be the best choice for offline ARPG on release.

That is, for the people who just want to grind out the best gear for themselves (or with friends in co-op), and not have to worry about trading and auction houses.

It will definitely supersede TQ, leaving maybe TL2. But TL2 is really kind of shallow, though fast and fun to play.

There are other contenders like Van Helsing, but those are really niche within a niche.

PoE is still tops though in terms of sheer choice in builds, in lore, and in its general vibe of darkness. And it owns the online ARPG category.

who gives a shit what wikipedia says ?
skyrim is not an ARPG to any veteran of the subgenre or genre

its an exploration RPG with a lot of combat, just like any elder scrolls game.

for whats its worth, TL2 is already waaay more replayable than GD, imo. SoT is nice and all but it cant compete against NG+++ and maps in TL2

Being a veteran of diablo-clones doesn't make you immune to making wrong assumptions. Wikipedia's take on categorization is far more reliable than a person who normally doesn't think about categorization and just play the games.

And since you are such a veteran, I am sure you played Final Fantasy Adventure, an Action RPG that was released 5 years before the first Diablo was released.
