You may be right there.
D2 is a very old ARPG. Time shown, that many of its features are stupid, and should be improved in futures game. I can forgive them for D2, cause it was almost the first.

But PoE.... PoE could use experience of its precedors, and dont repeat mistakes. Yet, it not only saves melee/ranged disparity, but actually increased it to absolutely new level.

Yes, in D2, you dont need to kill trash in latest endgame, and you need is to reach boss as fast as possible and slay him. Therefore, one of the biggest melee disadvantages (poor AoE and clear speed) doesnt matter so much for that.

In PoE? AoE and clear speed DOES matter, cause you cant deny loot from trash, as well as experience...

Compared to a Light Sorc he does. As well as Javazon's depending on how open the map is.
D2 and melee good?


D2 melees sucked if you didn't invest time into crafting a 3 socket cruel sword of quickness, found a Grandfather/Baranars or Lightsabre.

Zeal never got skilled over level 7 at some time because level 20 resulted in 24 hits and your weapons literally broke every game.

Every good meleeitem after 1.10 required duped highrunes.

Never played D3 but D2 melee have exacly the same problem like path of exile , the problem with it is that if you need to hit a monster in close range , you need to take the risk of recive high amounts of damage.

Every single ARPG Have that problem and being ranged is always the safest was to play.

D2 real melee skills ,zeal? Sucks. bash? suck, all other melee skills in the game? THEY ALL SUCK. Exept maybe whirlwind

melee skills in grimdown, Torchlight 1 and 2 are what melee skills in path of exile are, they are melee, but "AoE" attack skills

Close range melee combat will never be viable for endgame content.
Thats why most of the "melee" skills have AoE to them , so you will have some range.

And goddammit everybody, stop complaining about melee already.

I wonder if Chris talked about melee when he said that hey may have found a solution to something ARPG's always have struggled with. Let's hope.

6/100 in SCE are Marauders or Duelists.
12/100 in HCE are Marauders or Dualists (alive).

You can't just say this, be OK with this - and bash everyone that is not OK with this. Balance should ALWAYS be a priority. There are TONNES of ways to make it work/make it better.
